St. Joseph's Catholic Church
St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Baker, NE was built in 1900. When it started, it was a mission of St. Mary's Church in Spencer, NE. Property for the church and cemetery was donated by Christian Velder.
The church and parochial school burned 1927. A new building was built in 1931. The church closed in 1951 when it merged with it's parent church in Spencer.
When the railroad did not come to Baker, the town slowly disappeared and was none existant about 20 years before the church closed.
"The Saga of the Missouri River Reveille" by Adeline S. Gnirk has more details on this church and community.
