The Boyd County, Nebraska research page is proud to be part of the USGenWeb and NEGenWeb projects.

The USGenWeb project consists of a group of volunteers, working together to provide Internet websites for genealogical research in every county and every state of the United States.  This project is non-commercial and fully committed to free access for everyone.

This site provides a location where new volunteers can find answers to many of the questions they have about the USGenWeb Project. Where help is needed, guidelines for county and state websites, etc. It also provides information that coordinators can review on subjects that may come up after they establish their state, county or town website. Please help out by adopting a county today!

Special Request

The following request came from jerrylink@wanadoo.fr

A Mr. R. S. Schmidt from Monowi, Boyd County, was a west point cadet 1909 to 1913 and then went on to become a general as an engineer, appointed by recommendation of Congressman Boyd. His widow, our neighbor in Washington d.c., died in the eighties. She was a total recluse and although we attempted to be neighborly, we never met her. Whoever cleaned out her house threw away the West Point album and other memorabilia of Gen Schmidt. I noticed this in the trash and rescued some of the discarded items, but was not able to find any family member to give them to, as the house next door was empty.

Are there Schmidt family members descendents of Gen. Schmidt still in or around Monowi? If so, would they or the town or county, like to know more about the album etc.? I know nothing about the career of schmidt, but album and otheritems are interesting and moving.
