The original location of the Union Pacific Railroad provided for the road to cross the Platte at Fort Kearney, thence west up the south side of the river. General Carrington, then in command at Fort Kearney, made a survey for a bridge across the Platte at the point, reported unfavorable, and the plan of building a bridge was abandoned. |
