Fort Kearny Genealogical Society, organized in 1978 has in its own collection, or has access to early school records, cemetery inventories, census and Soundex records, microfilms of the Kearney HUB and other county newpapers, land patents, marriages, delayed birth records naturalizations, early probates, etc.

MEMBERSHIP:Membership in this society is open to all persons interested in genealogical, biographical or historical research. The membership dues are $15 annually. The year begins January 1 and dues are payable then.

MEETINGS: The Society meets on the fourth Thursday of each month January through November except they do not meet in June or July. In August a potluck dinner is held, and the December meeting is the annual meeting and brunch. Exact place, time, and program to be presented are announced in the news media and members are called.

QUARTERLIES (BUFFALO CHIP): Articles and reports for publications should be sent to FKGS, P.O. Box 22, Kearney, NE 68848. The quarterly is usually published in Spring, Summer, Fall and Winter. Back issues of the BUFFALO CHIP are available upon request. LIBRARY: The genealogy library is housed on the second floor of the Kearney City Library and is non-circulating. Exchange quarterlies and other reference materials and family histories acquired by the organization are placed in the library for use. These materials may be used at any time the public library is open, but they may not be checked out.

RESEARCH: The society will do searches and make copies for requests in Buffalo County. E-mails can be sent to the Fort Kearny Genealogical Socity at ftkrnygensoc@gmail.com or you may write to the FKGS, P.O. Box 22, Kearney, NE 68848. When writing or e-mailing, please provide the following information:
      name of person requesting search,
      mailing address, and
      e-mail address.
Please send as much as is known about the individual/family about whom research is requested. Also indicate what records you want searched.

The fees for a search are as follows: $10.00 when requesting an initial search. This fee will include the photocopying and mailing charges. If the Buffalo County resources show extensive information and require a great amount of time and copying expense, when the research is completed an e-mail or note will be sent requesting additional payment. When payment is received, the information will be mailed to you. Your check or money order should be mailed to Fort Kearny Genealogical Society, P.O. Box 22, Kearney, NE 68848 to the Attention of Researcher.

They cannot guarantee finding the information you seek, although every effort will be made to do so. Your research fee will not be returned. Please allow 60 days for a response.
