Activities: devoted most of his life to Habitat for Humanity, building 30 homes in Kearney and surrounding areas; participated in Jimmy Carter Work Projects in Eagle Butte, S.D.; Kentucky; Manila, Philippines; South Korea; Vera Cruz, Mexico; Durbin, South Africa; Amniston, Ala.; and Houston; helped in other building projects in Florida; Rio Grande Valley, Texas; Florence, Miss.; and Dubuque; most recently spent five months in Slidell, La., rebuilding homes in the aftermath of Katrina, when he was taken ill
Was to receive the Kearney Hub Humanitarian Award for Voluntarism on April 11; award will be accepted posthumously by his family
Survivors include his brothers, Gerald of Dubuque, Dwayne of St. Catherines and Michael Strader of Graf; and sisters, Melba Scaglione of Des Moines, Wanda Gibbons of Dubuque and Diann Woller of Anchorage, Alaska; also brothers-in-law, Frank Scaglione of Des Moines, Bob Gibbons of Dubuque and Fran Woller of Anchorage; sisters-in-law, Jeanne Fudge of Dubuque and Karen Fudge of St. Catherines; nephew, Todd Fudge; and 11 other nieces and nephews plus many great-nieces and great-nephews
