Married: Dec. 25, 1936, to Joellis Parker. He preceded her in death
Worked as a guard matron at the Grand Island Ordnance Plant, then went to the Kearney Air Base with her husband when he transferred there, again was a stenographer; husband was inducted into the service in World War II and was sent to Walker Army Air Base in Kansas, she was transferred to work there; lived near there at Victoria, Kan., for the duration of the war; moved to Kearney in fall 1947, attended classes at Kearney State College in woodworking, oil painting, furniture repair, lapidary, Spanish and poetry
Activities: member of Family Circle Extension Club; was an accomplished seamstress; gave classes in quilting and was honored as a featured quilter in Kearney in 1996; started the Kearney Quilt Guild with help from friends; belonged to the Nebraska State Quilt Guild and served in offices for it; was inducted into the Nebraska State Quilt Guild Hall of Fame in July 2003; enjoyed reading the American Life in Poetry feature in the Saturday paper; was able to enjoy living at her country home until her death

Activities: enjoyed Colorado elk hunting, attending the National Finals Rodeo, and working with the Mason City rodeo club; loved his cattle and the land, and especially his family and friends; was baptized and confirmed at St. Luke's Episcopal Church in Kearney and more recently attended Ansley United Methodist Church

Activities: lifelong member of Faith United Methodist Church, served on many committees; active member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary 759 and was a past president; was instrumental in helping start the Kearney Fireman's Ladies Auxiliary, served as president and at many different posts; joined the PTA (PTO) in 1940 and was awarded a lifetime membership in 1962; also helped bring the Head Start Program, South Central Nebraska Agency on Aging and the Goodwill store to Kearney; was an avid cake decorator, baker and seamstress, enjoyed crocheting quilts; was awarded the Sunshine Award, 2004, in recognition of many hours of volunteer work given to the community; served as election inspector, worked for more than 45 years for the 1st Precinct

His professional psychiatric experiences included: director of Cancer Counseling Program in the Department of Psycho-oncology at Creighton University Medical Center, medical director at Vince Lombardi Cancer Counseling Center at St. Luke's Medical Center and Cancer Clinics in Milwaukee, co-facilitator for oncology nursing staff of the Team Building and Process Group at St. Luke's, on-site supervisor/program preceptor for doctoral practicum in counseling psychiatry at University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, psychiatrist at the Norfolk Regional Center and Faith Regional Center in Norfolk, psychiatrist at Douglas County Hospital at Omaha in an emergency psychiatric crisis center, and served patients at the VA Medical Center in Omaha; was assistant professor at Creighton University Medical Center, Department of Surgical Oncology and Psychiatry, and clinical assistant professor at University of Wisconsin, Department of Family Medicine. At the time of his death, he was the director of Alegent Health Care Cancer Counseling Center in Omaha; professional memberships included: Metro Omaha Medical Society, American Psychosocial Oncology Society, American Psychiatric Association, Nebraska Psychiatric Society, American Medical Association, Nebraska Medical Association and American Medical Student Association
The type of psychiatry that he practiced was rewarding, yet difficult. He devoted his career to the art and science of taking care of patients with co-existing psychiatric and medical problems, principally patients with oncology diagnoses. He said, “I’ve been blessed with a wonderful family, wise instructors, mentors filled with empathy, talented colleagues and loving friends that shaped the person and physician I am.” Hestrived for excellence and for the best quality of life for his patients. Enjoyed traveling and fishing and was a state record angler in Nebraska. Other interests included running, water skiing, singing,playing the piano and painting.
