Married: February 1963, to Beverly Jean Sloan. She died April 15, 2004 Continued to farm; moved to Glendale in 1987
Activities: enjoyed square dancing for years; was a volunteer in community services; member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and once held the office of chapter commander in Kearney; member of Bethany Presbyterian Church in Glendale; was interested in politics and history; enjoyed traveling to historical places and national parks; visited many power dams in the Western states, one of his special interests; enjoyed annual reunions with his four sisters and their families
Moved into the Glencroft Care Facility in Glendale, 2002; after death of his wife, moved to an assisted-living apartment in Glendale; made many friends, especially Ardath Young, who became a special friend, but who died suddenly in 2007

Lived on a farm near Wilcox and later moved to farms near Bertrand; invented an instrument for irrigation; during the hard times of the Depression, worked on farms in Iowa while his family stayed in Nebraska; purchased his own farm near Riverdale in 1946; resided there with his wife until July 2006; moved to Mother Hull Home in Kearney; his dream was to have a farm where the buildings were all painted white, and that dream was fulfilled
Activities: enjoyed working with horses and livestock, helping his daughters with 4-H sheep and calves, and teaching his daughters to saddle and ride horses; traveled to many states and Canada; recently celebrated 71st wedding anniversary; was always very involved in church activities and attending church
Survivors include his daughters, Violet Bowers of Tulsa, Okla., and Virginia Pawley of rural Riverdale; brothers, Bruce of Creston, Iowa, and Marion of Chillicothe, Mo.; grandchildren, Natalie Stiefvater of New York City, Travis Pawley of rural Riverdale and Keli Short and Kevin Bowers, both of Tulsa; great-grandchildren, Regena Bohn of Glenpool, Okla., Kendra Houser of Owasso, Okla., and Melissa Langley of Tulsa; great-great-grandchildren, Ethan Bohn and Brooklyn Bohn, both of Glenpool; sons-in-law, Rolland Bowers of Tulsa and Jerrold Pawley of rural Riverdale; sisters-in-law, Elsie Travis of Kearney, Betty Travis of Creston and Mary Travis of rural Riverdale; and many nieces and nephews
Was preceded in death by his wife; parents; brothers, Paul, John, Lloyd, Mark, Ross and Paige; and son-in-law, Jon Stiefvater
