Attended grade school in Strelice and junior high, high school and college in Brno, Czechoslovakia; seminary studies were made in the diocesan seminary in Brno; was ordained to the priesthood July 5, 1942, by Bishop Stanislaus Zela, auxiliary bishop of Olomouc
Was assigned assistant pastor of Oslavany, 1947, while Bishop Zela was under house arrest; worked there until Feb. 17, 1949; left the country to avoid arrest by communist authorities, served as chaplain in refugee camps in Austria, Italy and Germany; immigrated to the United States, May 2, 1951; served as chaplain at St. Joseph’s Villa in David City, 1951-53; was administrator of parishes in the Lincoln Diocese at Curtis, Benkelman, Roseland and Farnam, 1953-1958
Was assigned to Pleasanton with Hazard as a mission, February 1958; supervised the building of the new St. Mary’s Church, rectory and parish hall in Pleasanton and the remodeling of the church in Hazard; an addition was built at St. Gabriel’s in Hazard in 1965, and a new church was built in Prairie Center and was dedicated in September 1976

Activities: member of the Priests’ Senate; was treasurer of the Priests’ Pension Board; was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus
