Lived on the ranch for several years and farmed north of Ord and south of Scotia for several more years; joined the Ord U.S. Soil Conservation Service in 1957; was transferred to the O'Neill office; moved to Kearney, 1964, was employed by Farmers National Co. as a farm manager for 62 farms; was a loan officer at First National Bank of Kearney; moved to Gibbon, became president of the Exchange Bank, then with a group of local investors, purchased the bank in 1980; enjoyed working long hours to serve the needs of his customers and community; sold the bank, 1989, but retained ownership of the Gibbon Insurance Agency; retired and moved to Omaha to be near family

May 1916, the family went by covered wagon pulled by two horses through the northwestern part of the state through Scottsbluff, Cheyenne, Wyo., and on to Fort Collins, Colo. This trip was due to her mother's health as she was diagnosed with tuberculosis
Attended Denman School through the 10th grade, the graduated from Kenesaw High School in 1926; attended Kearney Normal School in the summer months and taught rural school for four years
Married: Jan. 31, 1931, to Vern Johnson at Atwood, Kan. He died in 1970
Moved to the farm in Phelps County in May 1931, lived there until her health declined; moved to Christian Homes in Holdrege in 2003
Activities: 4-H club leader for Williamsburg Willing Workers for 25 years, president of United Methodist Women for several years, Sunday school teacher, Sunday school superintendent, church treasurer and member of the church board and cemetery board

NEHRING, Mrs. Bertha, died at St. Luke's hospital May 2, 1914 at the age of 60 years, 11 months and 23 days
She leaves to mourn her loss her husband, one son and three daughters. They are O.L. Kretzschmar of Sartoria, Neb., Mrs. S.E. Webster of Kearney, Mrs. H. Sohrweid and Mrs. Fred J. Deets of Lafayette, Ore. All were here to attend the funeral. Funeral services were held at the Bower undertaking parlors. From there the body was taken to Watertown, Neb., where interment took place.
