Activities: was a volunteer firefighter and emergency medical technician for the Kearney Volunteer Fire Department; taught CPR for five years for the American Red Cross; was a member of the Republican City Fire Department for a few years; member of the Republican Valley Saddle Club; member of New Life Assembly of God Church in Kearney, then transferred his membership to the United Methodist Church when he returned to Republican City; loved animals

After married, farmed in the Westerville community; moved to farm and ranch in the Cumro community, 1957; quit the farm in 1963 and moved to Kearney, entered Kearney State College, graduated with a bachelor of arts degree in education in 1967; moved to Overton, began a teaching career combined with ministry; received his first master of arts degree in 1969, his second master's in 1974 and his specialist degree in 1982; had also pursued graduate studies at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln
Was appointed, 1965, to be the first Baptist campus minister at Kearney State College, and pastor of the Baptist Church in Glenvil and the Community Church of Juniata; served Glenvil and Juniata for the next nine years; served various churches on a part-time or interim basis the remainder of his life, even after retirement; also worked as teacher, counselor, principal and finally as superintendent in several school districts; retired in 1992, from the position of superintendent of schools in Stapleton; moved back to Overton, and took up woodworking and restoring old Farmall tractors
Following the tragic death of their daughter Janet, in January 2003 moved to Kearney they made a second home for their grandchildren; joined the First Lutheran Church where their daughter and grandchildren were members
Activities: former member of Nebraska Council of School Administrators, the Nebraska State School Board Association and the Nebraska Rural Community Schools Association; lifetime member of the Nebraska Council of Retired School Administrators; member of Lions Club International
Was preceded in death by his parents and his daughter, Janet Elaine
