Grew up on the farm, moved into Kearney about 1956; attended Kearney State Teachers College for two years, then graduated in 1962 from Utah State University, with a degree in wildlife management
Worked in predator control for the Department of the Interior, U.S. Fish and Wildlife, 1962-1976
Married: Michele Ellen Yantis in Houston in 1963; the couple had one daughter
Military: U.S. Army Reserve
Graduated from St. Paul School of Theology in Kansas City, Mo., in 1979; returned to New Mexico, was ordained as a United Methodist minister in the New Mexico Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church; served churches in Estancia, Mountainair, Encino, Las Vegas, Clovis and Albuquerque, N.M., and Kermit, Texas; also served as district superintendent of the Albuquerque District for four years; earned his doctorate of ministry degree from McCormick Theological Seminary in Chicago in 1990; retired in 2003 while serving as senior pastor of First United Methodist Church in Albuquerque; moved to Bandera, Texas, the Cowboy Capital of the World, 2011; moved to St. Louis in 2013 to be near his daughter, son-in-law and grandsons

Married: Dec. 12, 1945, in Norton, Kan., to James Campbel when he returned home from military duty
After marriage, moved to Kearney; worked at Nebraska Job Service for 25 years until she retired
Activities: member of Church of Christ in Kearney; enjoyed crocheting, needlework, reading, watching the birds in her yard and going out to eat; always helped with any project at the church physically or monetarily

Married: Oct. 24, 1944, to John Deterding in Sioux City, Iowa
After marriage, followed her husband many places throughout his woodworking and farming career, including Riverdale, Englewood, Colo., Nehawka and Long Beach, Calif.; returned permanently to Nebraska in 1974 and made their home outside of Kearney; was instrumental helping establish Deterding’s family business in 1978; retired in 1996
Activities: enjoyed extensive travels; wintered in Venice, Fla., for seven years; enjoyed reunions with Alice’s high school classmates and John’s fellow B-17 pilots and crews; was very active in her children’s lives; enjoyed sewing, crocheting, gardening, plants, cooking, baking and playing cards and games; longtime member of the Rebekah Lodge

Married in 1969 to Beki Seal, in California; spent 15 years together, had two children
Graduated from Harley Davidson Mechanical School in Milwaukee, 1975; returned to Nebraska and worked on a family farm, then moved to Kearney and worked in various shops, garages, roadsides, living rooms and back yards in a lifelong quest for the perfectly tuned motorcycle. Activities: stopped working on bikes in the 1980s, but continued to ride for the rest of his life; collected knives and did some leatherwork and painting, but most of all, Denny loved riding his Harley and spending time with his family and friends; facilitated the first Narcotics Anonymous meeting in the state of Nebraska, 1978; was pivotal in the development of NA within the region and helped bring many folks to sobriety

Activities: president of the Gibbon Education Association in 1959; assisted her husband with the auction service, was especially interested in antiques; helped her husband with farm work; was a lover of nature, especially birds; enjoyed gardening and raising flowers; loved music, directed the Ravenna Zion Methodist Church choir for many years; enjoyed traveling, sewing, quilt making and crocheting; member of Shelton United Methodist Church, was president of Circle 3 of United Methodist Women; sang in the church choir

Was the second eldest son of 11 children; grew up in the Kearney-Elm Creek, Neb., area and attended high school in Elm Creek; enjoyed singing in the high school choir
Health issues prevented him from joining the U.S. Army; worked at the Odessa alfalfa mill for a few years and then at West Co.
Married: 1969 in Las Vegas to Carolyn Sivits
After marriage, lived briefly in California, but most of his married life was spent in the Boulder-Denver area; worked at various auto parts stores, health issues forced him into early retirement; fought a long, hard battle with Parkinson’s for over 10 years
Activities: called Nebraska “home,” was a Nebraska Cornhusker fan; enjoyed family softball teams; was an avid fisherman and hunter and took some fishing trips with his brother-in-law, Darrel Sivits

Following the war, they purchased a farm with the money she had saved from her salary at the Post Exchange; raised a multitude of crops as well as having a successful dairy farm and cow-calf operation; both were active 4-H leaders; worked hard on the farm, gardening, caring for the cow herd, and other farming tasks; was proud to help her children attain advanced education
Activities: was a wonderful cook and kept the Lebanese culinary tradition close to her heart; enjoyed cooking for family and friends

Graduated from Kearney High School in 1940; attended the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, member of Phi Gamma Delta fraternity; played trombone in the UNL concert and marching bands, later became drum major; during the train trip to march in the 1941 Rose Bowl, DeWayne and six other band members wrote the “Band Song” that is still performed by the Cornhusker Marching Band today
Military: U.S. Army, 1943-1945; completed basic training at Fort Roberts, Calif.; then studied engineering at the University of California at Berkeley in preparation for the Manhattan Project, was assigned to the 11th Armored Division as a “computer” in the Fire Direction Center for an armored field artillery battalion; fought in the Battle of the Bulge, helped liberate the Mauthausen concentration camp, and saw combat in Belgium, Germany and Austria under the command of Gen. George Patton
After discharge in 1945, attended the University of Michigan Law School, graduated in 1948
Returned to Kearney, practiced law for 25 years until his appointment as district judge for Buffalo and Sherman counties, 1976-1990; created the position of child custody officer, the first real effort by a Nebraska court to mediate child custody and visitation issues in the best interests of the children; later was appointed as an acting justice on the Nebraska Supreme Court to hear several cases
Activities: was active in civic affairs; was instrumental in bringing to Kearney Frontier Airlines, Interstate 80, and Central Nebraska Community College; served on the original board of Senior College of Central Nebraska and was treasurer of the group for the first six years of its history; chaired the building committees for construction of both Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Kearney and the Campus Lutheran worship center at the University of Nebraska at Kearney; was an avid reader, golfer and Nebraska football fan; enjoyed traveling with his wife and friends, and hosting family reunions
Moved to Northridge Retirement Community in April 2012, then joined wife Beverly at St. Luke’s; celebrated his 92nd birthday on April 24
