Worked as an extension educator for the Cedar County Extension Office and later for the Kimball-Banner County Extension Offices; in 1970, earned a master’s degree from the University of Nebraska
Married: Sept. 20, 1970, to Sharon L. Brothers in Dix
After marriage, lived in Dix; moved to Genoa, 1974, farmed with his brother Ike; moved to Kearney, worked at the Buffalo County Extension Office, 1984-2003l; retired from the extension office in 2003 after 33 years, the last 19 with Buffalo County
Activities: was very active with the 4-H program and enjoyed working with the equine participants and their horses; in retirement, continued to help with 4-H; most of all he loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren; lived his life with a servant’s heart; loved God and loved God’s people; member of Kearney Evangelical Free Church, Lions Club International, Gideons International and Kearney Noon Kiwanis
Survivors include: wife, Sharon of Kearney; two daughters, Debra Gloates and husband Steve of Pennsylvania and Megan Blazek and husband Nathan of Lincoln; a daughter-in-law, DeAnne Anderson of Lincoln; nine grandchildren, Cory Anderson, Briana Bartek and husband Nate, Joshua, Rachel, Ruth and Rebekah Gloates and Madelyn, Presley and Rowan Blazek; a brother, Ike Anderson and wife Dorothy of Genoa; and three sisters, Nancy Obermeyer of Milford, Harriet Maser and husband David of Sutton and Gail Fischer and husband Chris of California; and many nieces and nephews

Grew up in Gordon, graduated from Gordon High School in 1937, then worked as a receptionist in a doctor’s office
Married: George John Bauer on June 9, 1940, in Gordon; he preceded her in death following a lengthy illness in 1958
After marriage, lived in North Platte where George was a pharmacist; they purchased McNary Drug in Kearney and began Bauer Drug; after 11 years, changed the name to Bauer Sundries and Veterinary Supplies; closed the store, 1959; worked a brief time for Kearney Floral, then worked at ABC Drug, until she retired at age 80 in 1999; moved to Columbus
Grew up in the Sandhills of Nebraska during the Great Depression, lost her father and two sisters; faced these difficulties with grace, love and a joy only Christ could provide
Activities: was very proud of Kearney, compiled several scrapbooks for many residents and businesses; was an avid photographer and artistically talented decorating the windows of Bauer Drug and ABC Drug; loved to garden, especially raising roses; was a soft spoken, loving and caring person to all; member of First United Methodist Church, received her 50-year membership pin and taught Sunday school; member and past president of the Kenwood Elementary PTA and the PTA Mothersingers

Grew up at Trenton and attended District 46 country school through eighth grade, graduated from Trenton High School in 1948
When Betty was 9 years old, she was in a coma with cerebral spinal meningitis. She was given a 1-in-100 chance of a new medicine, “sulfanilamide,” working. When she came out of the coma, her Grandma Garner was there to see her and she said “Grandma.”
Took two years of Normal Training in high school, received her state teachers certificate; taught in Hitchcock County Schools, District 60; attended Kearney State Teachers College, received her diploma in 1952, then taught in the McCook Public School at North Ward and East Ward
Married: June 20, 1954, to Ray Dorothy; he passed away in May 1992.
After marriage, lived on the family farm south of Pleasanton; had four children
Activities: taught Sunday school and Bible school; member of the Republican Party and member of the Hospital Service League in Kearney; served 20 years on the election board of Rusco Township of Pleasanton; member of the Woman’s Christian Temperance Union, served as treasurer; served on the board of Mother Hull Home; grew up on the farm and loved to be outdoors; was very active; was well-known for her pies

Activities: member of the United Methodist Church in both Shelton and Kearney as well as First Presbyterian Church in Sun City West during the time she lived there; was active in many professional organizations, including the educational association for the Youth Development Center in Kearney; served as president of the Nebraska Correctional Association; was a sponsor and teacher of United Methodist Youth Fellowship as well as other Sunday school classes; was president of the Central Nebraska United Methodist District Women’s Society and served on many other church boards and committees; was active in PEO, Red Hat Society, Our Nite Out Extension Club and was recently admitted as a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution

Moved to Arizona, 1972, helped manage a furniture store and also became an escrow officer; taught night classes at a junior college; moved to Overton and lived with her daughter, Francie, and her husband, Andrew, in 1995; enjoyed spending the remaining years of her life surrounded by her family and friends
Activities: joined Trinity Lutheran Church in Lexington, was an active member of its LWML, Human Care Guild and numerous other Bible study groups; member of the local Christian Women’s Connection Group; enjoyed traveling all of her life and telling her grandchildren and great-grandchildren of her adventures

Military: joined the U.S. Army Reserves at age 18 in 1943; shipped off to the European Theater of War, was attached to the 8th Air Force in England and in Luxembourg, Germany, as a ground aircraft observer; remained in the service and as a young second lieutenant in the Korean War earned the Bronze Star with Valor and Oak Leaf Cluster for his actions in the last battle for Pork Chop Hill; was part of the American occupation force in Japan, 1949-1950; other duty assignments included posts in Oberammergau and Wurzburg, Germany; Aberdeen Proving Grounds in Maryland; and at Fort McClellan, Ala., where he served as a chemical corps training officer in 1965; gave training in escape and evasion techniques to men who would soon be shipping off to the Vietnam War; lastly served as the post commander of Rocky Mountain Arsenal in Denver; retired in Denver as a lieutenant colonel in 1968; other medals and awards were the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster, Armed Forces Service Medal and the Army Commendation Medal; was held in the highest regard due to his devotion to his fellow service men and the service
Began his second career as the safety officer for the Office of Administration and Safety for the U.S. Treasury Department in Washington, D.C.; worked closely with the department of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms and with the Secret Service; wrote many speeches for the Secretary of the Treasury; retired from treasury in 1984, and moved to Kearney
Activities: was a great lover of animals and was devoted to the Kearney community; devoted many hours to restoration of the former U.S. Post Office into the Museum of Nebraska Art; served on the Kearney Public Library board; and volunteered many years to Good Samaritan Hospital
