Was a housewife and mother and worked outside the home doing many different jobs; did wallpapering and worked in several cafés and the grocery stores in Amherst; worked at the Recreation Parlor in Amherst for 10 years then worked in the lunchroom at Amherst Public Schools for 16 years; retired in 1983

Lived all but three of their 70 married years in Kearney; worked in Kearney and Minden as a butcher, then sold insurance for Bankers Life of Nebraska; from 1963-1969, owned and operated A&W Drive-In; later owned Tastee Freeze near the college; also worked at Kearney Buick, the sheriff’s department and Brodine Inc.; joined the fire department in 1971 as a driver and volunteer fireman; became an emergency ambulance technician in 1982; retired as a driver in 1987; also owned the Cowpoke Western Store, 1983-1995; drove for Eppley Express, 1991-1998
Activities: served as Santa in the Christmas Gingerbread House on Central Avenue; began growing his beard in August; with his curly white beard and mustache, little red nose, cherry cheeks and eyes that twinkle, more than 9,000 children visited him since December 1992; member of First United Methodist Church, Corvair Society of America, and the Society for the Preservation and Appreciation of Antique Motor Fire Apparatus in America; could fix anything and everything; enjoyed tinkering, woodworking and traveling the world with his wife

Military: U.S. Navy Reserve, 1954-1956; went to Great Lakes for boot camp, then airman’s school in Norman, Okla., then “A” school training on Link Trainers (flight simulators) in Memphis, Tenn.; served at Whidbey Island, Wash., as his duty station; was discharged as a petty officer third class

Returned to Council Bluffs, enrolled at Omaha University under the GI Bill; graduated in 1960 from Omaha U. with a degree in engineering/business; moved to Kearney, was a pharmaceutical salesman for Pfizer Labs; was instrumental in Kearney hosting the 1967 State Convention and also in building the stock cars track at the Buffalo County Fairgrounds and building and racing stock cars; held various jobs and was involved in many endeavors during his lifetime, including Taco John’s and Subway stores
Activities: loved playing racquetball and sailing; was a “car guy”, enjoyed NASCAR races competed at Kearney, Hastings, Ord, Beaver City, Broken Bow, Holdrege, McCook and Norton, Kan.; enjoyed hunting and fishing trips to other states and countries; was active in the Kearney Jaycees and was elected president in 1965

Survivors include: two daughters, Deanna Gordon of Kearney and Cheryl Seachord and husband Michael of Fairbury; three grandchildren, Michelle Cate of Valentine, Heather Gordon of Kearney and Jeff Gordon of Phoenix; two great-grandsons, Lyle and Logan Cate of Valentine; two sisters-in-law, Ila Wright of Elm Creek and Joan Wright of Kearney; and many nieces, nephews and a host of relatives and friends
Was preceded in death by his wife, Eddis; parents; one son, Gregory Lynn, who died in infancy; brothers, Deane Wright of Kearney and Dale Wright of Elm Creek; and sister, Betty Kolar of Kearney
