Had been a secretary and then teacher at Bancroft School in New Jersey and later worked as a social worker
Married: Jerry Neil Allen, on June 18, 1955 in Kearney; he preceded her in death on September 25, 2013
After marriage, had a number of years moving around the country; was an active volunteer with the Cub Scouts and the Brownies, watching her three children grow; settled permanently in Morning Sun in 1975
Activities: was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Mediapolis and a P.E.O. Chapter in Burlington; enjoyed gardening, reading, traveling, theatre, musicals, and animals; loved being a homemaker and a hostess; hosted many foreign exchange students, sponsoring high school students from Belgium, Brazil, Finland, Chile and Denmark Survivors include: her son, Charles Edwin Allen; two daughters, Jane & Tom Cranston of Coralville and Nancy & Owen Ryder of Quebec, Canada; four grandchildren, Jessica & Jason Clark, Robert ‘RJ’ Hergert, Eric & Nicole Pershing, and Carter Pershing; four great grandchildren, Sierra Rose, Christopher, Lea, and Ashlynn; a brother, Charles Henry of Danville, California; two sisters, Nancy Van Allen of Honolulu, Hawaii and Maren Henderson of Santa Monica, California; and several nieces and nephews and their families. Worked for Eaton Corp. for 33 years, retired in 2009
Activities: was an avid outdoorsman; enjoyed camping, fishing, and hunting; especially enjoyed time at deer camp with children; longtime member of the NRA, Ducks Unlimited and Pheasants Forever; was very active in Boy Scouts for many years; was a collector; built “Bennett’s Bookhouse” on his property to house and display his treasures, but more importantly, to provide a place for the family to gather on holidays and special occasions; cherished the time he spent with his family; his grandchildren were his heart and joy

After marriage, lived in Kearney; worked at Bear Brand Hosiery, when it closed, moved to Loveland and Berthoud, Colo., and worked for Hewlett-Packard for 10 years; later moved to Imperial and opened a café; when their marriage ended in 1978, Jill moved to Nebraska City
Worked at a café, cooking and waiting tables in Nebraska City, then found a job in the kitchen at the Ambassador; in her 40s, finally returned to school and earned a degree in food service and nursing home administration; eventually earned a master’s degree in administration; worked as a nursing home administrator in Lincoln, Grand Island, Harvard and Adams; also became an instructor and taught classes in administration at Central Community College-Hastings while working full time; retired in 1998; helped create the children’s day-care center in the Gold Crest Retirement Home, where the young and the old enjoy and learn from each other
Married: 1992, to Alfred Catlin; lived at El Charman Lake near Gibbon and later built a new home in Kearney
Activities: enjoyed fishing, gardening, antiquing, car shows, traveling, cribbage, bridge, walking in the pool and their families; when Al passed away in 2014, Jill moved closer to family in Nebraska City
Was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Al Catlin; and her brother, Thomas Parke Myers

After WWII, got his master’s degree in meteorology from the University of St. Louis, became an officer in the U.S. Air Force; retired as a lieutenant colonel; returned to Kearney where he resided until his death
Survivors include: daughter, Patricia Rose and her husband, Wayne, of Green Bay, Wis.; daughter-in-law, Ray E. Clark of Denver; four grandsons; one granddaughter; and four great-grandchildren

Married: Roger Reiter in 1974
Taught in numerous schools in Nebraska and Iowa, including South Loup Scotia, Iowa School of the Deaf in Council Bluffs and held an itinerant teaching position in Storm Lake, Iowa; was honored by the University of Nebraska at Kearney for being a one-room school teacher in Antioch, her favorite school; had a passion for teaching the deaf and fashioned her teaching skills to match the individual needs of her students; claimed that she received more blessings from her students than she could give to them; followed the progress of many of her students as they advanced in their educational pursuits
Activities: daughter Brandi Michelle Reiter was the love, pride and joy of her life; was proud of the kind, caring and hard-working woman her daughter had become; favorite car was a 1963 Plymouth Valiant named it Gertrude; volunteered a couple of years with Cruise Nite in Kearney; loved growing herbs in her garden and shared them with family and friends; knitted prayer shawls for friends who needed comfort

Moved to Milford to attend Nebraska State Trade Schoolonthe G.I. Bill; member of the first graduating class in auto mechanics/auto body repair; moved to Mason City, Iowa, was the parts manager at the Lincoln Mercury Ford Dealership; returned to Kearney to be closer to family; worked downtown for an auto parts store and the alfalfa mill; n 1954, moved into the renovated District 50 schoolhouse and began farming full time with his parents; retired in the late 1990s
Activities: in retirement enjoyed traveling/camping, gardening, visiting family and enjoying their hobbies; dedicated a large amount of time to Axtell Presbyterian Church, served on various boards and was a longtime elder

In retirement, volunteered and supported local events, including Habitat for Humanity, Kiwanis, United Methodist Men, singing (or sleeping) in the church choir, attending events at the Merryman, Lied and community theater, etc.; was awarded Kearney’s Humanitarian of the Year in 2003; was very proud of his grandchildren,made them his special waffles, attend their events and shared his appreciation of classical music with them; enjoyed traveling around the world, including Thailand, Panama, Alaska and Taipei; other hobbies included photography and listening to the stock market or news
Survivors include: his wife of 59 years, Bev; children, Roger Schliefert, David Schliefert and Doug Schliefert and wife Jodi, all of Grand Island, and Linda Dixon of Central City. He leaves behind six grandchildren, Josh, Michael, Megan, Courtney, Chloe and Sarah, as well as three great-grandchildren

Moved to Munising, Michigan, 2009, to follow Nate’s career and to be closer to Faith’s parents; was active in the ministries of Lutheran Churches in Munising, Kearney and then in Littleton, Colo., helping coordinate Vacation Bible School, Women’s Ministry, clothing donations, and children’s programming, etc.; home-schooled their children, integrating nature and distinctive learning experiences into the curriculum; touched the lives of many wherever she was, her heart always felt at home in Colorado
Activities: supported her children in their pursuits of competitive and traveling hockey, enjoying a trip to Burlington, Vermont with Mekaela in the spring of 2016; had profound artistic ability, expressed in her independent business and through photography, was able to capture the beauty of simple moments, glorifying God’s beauty in nature, her family, and daily activities; always ready for adventure, approached new endeavors with a trusting sprit, contagious laughter, and enduring positivity

Activities: loved sports and outdoor activities, including football and basketball in his high school and college years, and skiing, fishing and golfing the rest of his life; interests included cooking, mountaineering, astronomy and paleontology; read voraciously and was intensely curious and continued learning until his last days by taking courses on a wide range of topics, including physics, philosophy, art and history; loved teaching his kids to fish and ski, playing golf with his family and taking his dogs for walks; was intensely proud of his family
