Returned to Ansley, went to work as an electrician and for the village of Ansley, later became the superintendent of utilities and held this position for 50-plus years
Married: Lucille Price in 1947; had two children together, Steven and Debra
Married: Charlotte Pester-Reed, 1962; acquired four daughters, Barbara, Betty, Pam and Julie, and together they raised their six children
Activities: served on the school board, fire department, Methodist Church board, Veterans of Foreign Wars, building committee for the new Ansley High School, Methodist Church fellowship hall and Ansley community building; was always there for the entire community fixing everything; received numerous awards and accolades including: The Rudy Hultgren Award for Dedicated Service from Municipal Energy Agency of Nebraska; The Larry Hobart Seven Hats Award from American Public Power Association; and The Bob Arraj Innovative Service Award; loved life to the fullest whether it was water skiing, golfing, square dancing or gun collecting
Survivors include his wife, Charlotte of 56 years; daughters, Barbara (Jim) Werkmeister, Betty (Jeff) Warren and Pam Pearson, and son-in law, Jeff Anderson, all of Kearney; grandchildren, Jamie (Megan) Bollwitt, Doug (Beth) Pearson, Steve (Steph) Case, Kelly Werkmeister, Jenny (Kolby) Lathrop, Ann (Ryan) Wymore, Kari Rodriguez, Angie Werkmeister, Chris (April) Einspahr, Drew (Ashley) Anderson, Lisa (Joel) Wheeler and Tyler (Christa) Anderson; 28 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; brother, Larry (Stella) Amsberry; sister, Bonnie McConnell; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends

Moved from Naponee to Kearney in 1971; worked for Baldwin Filters, retired in 1991 due to failing health
Activities: loved sewing, cooking, baking, gardening and watching her grandchildren race; favorite flowers were peonies and yellow roses; adored swans; loved her family and would often have get-togethers at her home; lived for her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren

Activities: enjoyed sports throughout his lifetime, enjoyed time with friends watching Husker games, playing horseshoes, playing pitch, enjoying music and hanging out in the backyard; loved UNC basketball games, Dodgers baseball and Husker football; traveled to see family in the Panhandle; was faithful and reliable, ornery and stubborn at times with a great sense of humor, and a protector of those he loved

Began working at the New Holland Manufacturing Plant in Lexington, eventually transferring to Sperry New Holland in Kearney, as a parts manager; remained in that position through several company acquisitions, loyally serving countless customers throughout Nebraska and northern Kansas; due to health, retired from the Titan Machinery store in Holdrege in 2017
Married: May 1976, to Patricia Abels; had three children together: Timothy Alan, Christina Dawn and Michelle Ann.

Activities: faithful member of First Presbyterian Church in Holdrege, the Fraternal Order of the Eagles Aerie 3132 of Holdrege and was a volunteer fireman for Amherst; was a motorcycle enthusiast and loved going on long rides with his family and friends; enjoyed cheering for the Husker football team, attending NASCAR and NHRA races, and being amongst friends around his fire pit; most of all, loved his family and treasured the times spent with his children and grandchildren

Activities: loved her family dearly and believed in God; enjoyed dancing, bowling, photography and traveling; was a historian and a poet

With brother, “Jiggs,” purchased The Breeze in 1965; at that time, the two were the youngest newspaper owners in the state; sold his interest in The Breeze to Jiggs, 1969, and moved the family to Grand Island, was employed by Federated Insurance in sales; purchased Flower Evans Insurance Agency in Grand Island, 1984; merged with five other insurance agencies in 1988 and became The Insurance Group; moved to Johnson Lake near Elwood in 1990, worked for Fasse Valves, retired in 2007; moved to Kearney in 2000
Activities: enjoyed traveling all over the United States; enjoyed attending his grandchildren’s events, University of Nebraska at Kearney sporting events, making Saturday morning pancakes, and watching TV; loved people; active member of Faith United Methodist Church in Kearney

Returned to Hildreth, he farmed and raised livestock
Activities: member of the United Methodist churches in Hildreth and Minden; past commander and life member of the VFW as well as the American Legion and Disabled American Veterans; participated in a recent Hero Flight; enjoyed going to auctions and had an ear for music, had extensive record collection; was loved by his family and friends and was a very generous man, giving to his family, community and country in many ways
Survivors include his nieces, nephews and cousins, as well as a host of other relatives and friends

Began working in Kearney in 1995 soon after graduating; worked as an electronics engineer in the Department of Aeronautics for the State of Nebraska, traveled all over the state setting beacons to guide pilots and astronauts safely over Nebraska; also worked on the Doppler Radar Weather Stations and was inducted as an Admiral into the State of Nebraska Navy by Governor Johann for being awarded Employee of the Year in 2002
Activities: loved teasing his many nephews and nieces unmercifully and enjoyed visiting with his large extended family; was a big Husker fan and loved Nebraska Football; enjoyed fishing, hunting and golfing with his family and taught the Main nieces how to play Sudoku; enjoyed fishing at Merritt Reservoir every Labor Day weekend with his relatives

Married: Aug. 15, 1954, married Dean Hansen from Gettysburg; later divorced
Raised five children in Rapid City, Denver and Grand Island, worked as a secretary; later lived in Hastings and Kearney
Activities: was a vibrant woman; attended various churches in the communities where she lived and enjoyed Bible studies; enjoyed music, singing, dancing, selling Avon and sewing

While still attending seminary, supplied St. Peter’s Church in Pilger and St. Petri’s Lutheran Church near Howells. The two congregations merged and built a new church in Pilger. From 1949 to 1953 he served St. Luke’s Lutheran Church in Stanton along with Pilger. In 1953, became Director of Admissions at Midland College, served there until 1979 when he was came to First Lutheran Church in Kearney as an Associate Pastor; served as a Pastoral Advisor to the Midwest Synod Luther League and was Camp Director for WANATUA Camp at Niobrara for 17 years; received a Master of Divinity from the Lutheran School of Theology in Chicago and the Doctor of Divinity Degree from Midland College in 1994

Activities: member of the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Eagles Club, the Kearney Bowling Association for several years and the Bricklayers Union 11 for 62 years; enjoyed bowling, hunting and fishing; was inducted to the Kearney Bowling Association Hall of Fame on March 23, 1996; also loved playing cards at the Peterson Senior Center
Survivors include: his wife, Peggy of Kearney; two sons, Kirby Zuerlein and fiancée Linda Carroll of Red Cloud and Kevin Zuerlein and special friend Sherry Hourihan of Phoenix; four grandchildren; five stepchildren; 15 stepgrandchildren; 12 stepgreat-grandchildren; a sister, Gerry Scanlon of Marion, Iowa; and many nieces and nephews
Was preceded in death by his parents; two wives, LuAnn and Ellen; an infant son, Kurtis; a daughter, Kelly Zuerlein; a brother, Gilbert Zuerlein; and two sisters, Margaret Swerczek and Betty Wilhelm
