Edwin and his brother Robert were sons of Wellington & Elizabeth Potter of Elm Creek, Nebraska.
Both were born in Pennsylvania and were farmers when they first got to Elm Creek. Later they moved
on into other professions. The Potters moved to Nebraska in 1878.
Edwin met Mary Volk in Elm Creek and they were married in 1893. Edwin was the
town's postmaster and druggist. Having one child (Newton) in Nebraska, Edwin and family
moved the Arizona in the late 1890s where they brought two more children into the
world, Edwin Jr. and Marcella. Later they moved into California and had one more child Wesley.
