Obituary of Emma L. Bridenstine Garrison,

possibly the Union Ledger, August 1904

Mrs. Emma Garrison.

Born Feb. 19, 1860, at hamburg, Iowa. Died at 1 o'clock a. m., on Friday, Aug. 26, 1904, at the home in Lincoln, Neb.
Deceased, whose maiden name was Emma L. Bridenstine, resided in this town and vicinity a number of years, and many friends here were surprised and shocked when the news of her sudden death was received. Her death was entirely unexpected, as she was in apparent good health when she retired that night. About 1 o'clock her husband's attention was attracted by a slight moan, and when he procured a light he found that she had passed away, death resulting from heart failure. The funeral services were held at 2 o'clock p. m. Sunday at their home, Howard St., Lincoln, and interment was made in one of the cemeteries of that city.
Deceased was a daughter of Jacob Bridenstine, who was one of the early settlers of Cass county, residing at Rock Bluffs a number of years, and later near this village, afterwards moving to Kansas. She was a pupil of Judge Ramsey in the schools at Rock Bluffs in the early '70, moving to this vicinity a few years later. She was married Jan. 15, 1882, to Alonzo D. Garrison, and resided in this village several years. They have been living in Lincoln the past four years. She was a good Christian woman, and many of her childhood friends in this village and county are grieved to learn of her death.

A Card of Thanks.

To the many friends who came to us with sympathy and assistance in our sad bereavement by death of our wife and daughter, we desire to express our sincere thanks. Such kindness is highly appreciated and will not be forgotten soon.

Obituary of Emily (Murphy) Garrison,

probably the Union Ledger, December 1898
Obituary.

Emily GARRISON. --Bron October 16, 1846, in Floyd county, Indiana. Died at the home in Union, Neb., on Tuesday, December 13, 1898, at 3 o'clock a. m.
Deceased was the wife of George W. Garrison, to whom she was married November 27, 1894, and was a sister of Ezra Murphy. About a year ago it was discovered that she was suffering from cancer of breast which gradually extended to the lung despite the efforts of the best physicians to control it. During all those months of intense suffering she was patient and submitted with Christian resignment to the will of Him whom she had learned to love and worship. She had been confined to her bed about five weeks and for ten days prior to her death she was unconscious most of the time.
In Mrs. Garrison's death the bereaved husband loses a kind and affectionate companion, this community loses a noble member of its society, and her absence will be felt in the church and Sabbath school, where she was an earnest and influential laborer. The funeral service was held at the Baptist church at 2 o'clock p. m. on Wednesday, Rev. S. R. Dillon conducting a touching and impressive service, taking for a test these words: "We know that if this earthly house of our tabernacle is dissolved we have a building of God, an house not made with hands, eternal in the Heavens." After the service a large concourse of sorrowing friends accompanied the remains to the last earthly resting place in the cemetery northeast of Union. The pall bearers were G. A. Rose, G. F. McNamee, Geo. N. LaRue, Wm. Wolfe, Frank Runyon, and John Klaurens.

Obituary of Amelia Anna (Newlin) Garrison,

possibly the Union Ledger, no date 1894

Obituary.

We are again called upon to record the death of one of our most worthy and estimable friends -- Mrs. Amelia Anna, wife of George W. Garrison. She was born in Preston county, Virginia, May 1st, 1836, and was married in Indiana August 9th 1855. They moved to Nebraska May 18th, 1859, where they have ever since resided. In the year 1854 Mrs. Garrison joined the Baptist church and up to her death was a consistent and devoted member, always ready to espouse the cause of true Christianity, and living a life worthy the emulation of those who chanced to know her. She was taken sick July 2nd with typho-malarial fever and endured her suffering with Christian fortitude. She was rational at all times, and up to 5:30 on Wednesday morning, the hour of her death, she knew all around her and evinced no evidence that the end of her life was so near. At 10 o'clock yseterday morning the body was borne to the Baptist church, where scores of friends had assembled to pay their last tribute of respect. Rev. Mickle, of Lincoln, delivered an able and touching discourse over the remains of the deceased. Loving friends had decorated the altar with flowers and plants. After the benediction the funeral cortege slowly wended its way to Union cemetery where the last sad rites were administered in memory of the good and loving woman.

A Card of Thanks.

We wish to gratefully acknowledge to all our friends the appreciation we feel for the help and sympathy extended to us during the illness and death of our wife and mother.
            George W. Garrison & Family
