Death of a Young Man, One Time Resident Here:
Charles Svoboda living at Fort Calhoun died at University Hospital at Omaha.
From Tuesday’s daily:

Yesterday at the University hospital at Omaha occurred the reath (sp) of Charles S. Svoboda, one time a well-known resident here and who has of late years been living at Fort Calhoun, NE, Death coming after an illness of some two months duration from rheumatism. Mr. Svoboda who was a son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Svoboda, formerly of this city was born 35 years ago in Bohemia and spent the greater part of his lifetime in this community. Since his childhood he was afflicted with a lameness that retarded his getting around to a great extent and enfeebled his health to such an extent that he was a sufferer for a great deal of the time and his death comes as a relief to the long period of illness. Mr. Svoboda is survived by the father, residing at Fort Calhoun, two sisters, Mrs. Louis Kostka of this city, Mrs. Stanley Bartusek of Canada, and one brother, Frank Svoboda of Fort Calhoun. The body will be brought to the city and the funeral services will held on Wednesday afternoon at 2 o’clock from the home of his sisters, Mrs. Kostka on the K. of T. hi-way just north of the Missouri Pacific Station. The services will be conducted by the Pastor of the Bohemian Presbyterian church of Omaha.

Obituary of Philipp F Rihn

Services Saturday for Phil Rihn, 91

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan 13 for Phil Rihn, 91, who died Tuesday night, Jan 9. At the Masonic Home here. The Rev. Dr. M Eugene Mackabee will officiate at the services which will be conducted at the First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), Plattsmouth. Twyla Hodge will be organist. Pallbearers will be Edward Wehrbein, Pete Tincher, John Beckman, Warren Mamoran, Mike Edmondson and Norm Henry. Mrs. Richard Schade and Mrs. Grant Roberts will be flower-bearers. Rex Young will be an honorary pallbearer. Interment will be in Oak Hill Cemetery, Plattsmouth Masonic Rites will be conducted at graveside.

Phil Rihn was born Oct. 9 1887 in the State of Illinois. In 1897, he moved to Plattsmouth with his father. He geban working upon completion of his 8th grade education. He was employed with the Burlington – Northern railroad, Soenhichsen’s Stores and E.G. Dovey & Sons Stores, before going into partnership with Henry Soenhichsen in a grocery store at Murray. He later went into partnership with a Mr. Greene at Union, where they operated a grocery store until 1943 when Mr. Rihn sold out and went to work at the Martle Bomber Plant, Bellevue. From 1960-70, he was in charge of the Missouri River Port of Entry at Plattsmouth. That office closed when he retired. He later worked parttime at Gambles Store. Mr. Rihn was a member of the First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) since 1907. He served in every office, including President of the Board of Elders and Treasurer of the Church. On Oct 5, 1910, he and Minnie Fry were married. She preceded him in death. Mr. Rihn moved to the Masonic Home in the Mid-1960s. He was a 30 year mason. He wrote the Masonic Home News for the Journal for a number of years. He leaves no survivors.

Obituary of Minnie M (Fry) Rihn
Plattsmouth Journal, January 26, 1970

Funeral services were held Jan 10 at the First Christian Church here at ten in the morning for Mrs. Philipp F (Minnie M) Rihn, 79, who died Jan 7. The Rev. Paul L Whitfield pastor of the church, officiated with Ritual by Home Chapter No 189 Order of Easter Star. Mrs. Twyla Hodge was organist and Mrs. Dale Jackson and Mrs. Don Hart sang a duet. Flower ladies were Mrs. George Winscot and Mrs. John Wandra. Pallbearers were Eugene Ford, Dona Hart, John Kaffenberger, Chester Minniear, Hallie Perry and George Winscott. Burial was at Oak Hill Cemetery, Plattsmouth. Caldwell Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Rihn was born July 3, 1899 at Plattsmouth, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Tom Fry and lived here the greater part of her life. She was graduated fro Plattsmouth Schools in 1908. Worked as a telephone operator part time and taught school two years. She also worked as a clerk for Soenhichsen’s dry goods. She was married to Mr. Rihn Oct 5, 1910. In Sept 1919 the couple moved to a half section of land near Hugo Colo. In 1924 they returned to Plattsmouth. In 1926 she and her husband entered into partnership with Mr. and Mrs. Charles Greene in a general merchandise store in Union where they lived until 1943 when Mr. Rihn accepted a position with the Martin Bomber Plant at Fort Crook and they moved back to Plattsmouth. On April 20, 1969, due to Mrs. Rihn’s ill health, the couple moved to the Masonic Home where she died. Surviving are her husband, cousins in Kansas and Iowa. Mrs. Rihn was a member of the First Christian Church and active in her church work, a member of CWF and County Extension.

Obituary of Mary Lucile (Lasley) Rosencrans

Services Are Held For Former Teacher, Lucile Rosencrans

Funeral services were held Monday, Jan. 15, for Mary Lucile Rosencrans, 326 North Eight St., Plattsmouth, who died Jan. 13 at the Plattsmouth Manor. She was 76. The Rev. Ernest Lemjeux officiated at the services conducted at the Caldwell Funeral Home chapel. Plattsmouth. Twyla Hodge was organist. Pallbearers were Don Bell, Dale Jackson, Carl Ofe, Jack Rosencrans, Ken Schneider and Matthew Sedlak. Interment was in Oak Hill Cemetery, Plattsmouth. Memorials to the Cass County Historical Society Museum and the First United Methodist Church, Plattsmouth, are suggested.

A longtime Plattsmouth resident and teacher, Mrs. Rosencrans authored over 200 articles and short stories for children’s magazines. Mary Lucile Rosencrans was born Oct 25, 1904 in Monroe County, MO, to Mathew T and Mary E Martin Lasley. She and Clayton Rosencrans were married in 1937 at Maryville, MO. Mrs. Rosencrans taught school in the state of Missouri and Nebraska for 45 years, including 26 years in Plattsmouth. Mrs. Rosencrans was a member of the P.E.O., the Daughters of the American Revolution, Delta Kappa Gamma teachers honorary. She was also a past member of the Nebraska Writers Guild and a member of the Midwest Heirloom Doll Club of Omaha. Mrs. Rosencrans was a communicant of the First United Methodist Church, Plattsmouth. She is survived by a sister, Zilpha Seward of Plattsmouth, a Step-son, Bill Rosencrans of South bend; and a niece, Mrs. Don Bell of Plattsmouth. Her husband preceded her in death here in 1966. The Caldwell Funeral Home, Plattsmouth, had charge of arrangements.
