CHEYENNE COUNTY NEBRASKA
Cheyenne
County Genealogical
Society
Cheyenne County was created in 1867
from Unorganized Territory. Originally it was comprised
of Banner, Deuel, Garden, Kimball, Morrill and
Scottsbluff, all present-day counties. It has a rich and
colorful history with Fort
Sidney, the railroads and the freight routes going
through Sidney and north on the Deadwood Sidney Trail.
During World War II, Sioux Army Depot was located near
the town. In the 1950s oil was discovered in the county
causing an oil boom to assist our local economy. Since
we are a rural area, farming and ranching is an industry
that has been here since the homesteaders settled the
county. Today we also have Cabela’s, "World's Foremost
Outfitter of Hunting, Fishing and Outdoor Gear" and
other local industries, such as Krone, and U S Aprons
Sidney is the County Seat. Potter, Dix,
Gurley, Dalton, Sunol and Lodge Pole are other towns
in the county.
County Clerk has
Marriage and Land Records.
County Court has
Probate Records.
District Court has
Divorce Records.
