CUSTER COUNTY
OBITUARIES

Margaret Ann Batman Williams

Margaret Batman was born in Iowa County, Wisconsin, September 15, 1847.  She removed with her father and mother to Grant City, Worth county, Missouri, in 1865, where she was united in marriage to George Williams, December 25, 1870.  To this union were born eight children, of whom five are living, all of whom were present at the time of her death.  They are Mrs. Anna Miller, of Hayes Center, Nebr., William, of Brownlee, Nebr., George W. of Ashby, Nebr., and Mrs. Edward Burton and Mrs. R. C. Jones of this vicinity.  She professed faith in Christ and united with the Christian church of Ansley, Nebr., October 1st, 1916.  She was stricken with paralysis, Tuesday, November 13th, 1917, and died Saturday November 17th, 1917, aged 70 years, 2 months and 2 days.  Mrs. Williams was a kind and loving wife and mother, a devoted friend, a charitable neighbor and a true Christian, whom faithful, unassuming life was a benediction to all who knew her.  Her hope is expressed in her favorite lines found in her Bible after her death:

"Why should we weep when the weary ones rest on the bosom of Jesus Supreme

In the valley by the dark River of Death?

For death is no more than a dream.

Only a dream, only a dream and glory beyond the great stream,

How peaceful the slumber, how happy the waking,

For death is no more than a dream."

Funeral services were conducted from the Christian church, Ansley, Nebr. on Monday, November 19th, 1917, at 2:00 p.m., Pastor Chas. A. Shook officiating, after which interment was made in the Ansley cemetery.
