Ruth Gilmore Manning

Mrs. Pearl Moore of York and Mrs. Sarah Gilmore of McCool Junction arrived in Sargent Wednesday evening to attend the funeral of their aunt Mrs. Ruth Manning. Mrs. A. R. Hinckley of St. Paul arrived in Sargent Wednesday evening in company with her father and brother B. H. Manning, all of whom were on the sad mission of accompanying the body of her mother here for burial. David L. Manning of Hebron, this state, came here Wednesday to attend the funeral of his mother.

Ruth Gilmore was born near Sugar Loaf, Pennsylvania Jan. 3, 1848. At the age of 13 she came with her parents to LaSalle, Ill. where she resided until the time of her marriage to Reuben S. Manning, July 5, 1867. In 1869 they moved to York County, Nebr., near Blue Valley, now known as Blue Vale. To them were born six children: B. H. Manning of Sargent, Nebr., D.L. Manning of Hebron, Nebr., Phoebe J. Hinkley of St. Paul, Nebr., Florence May died at the age of 21 months, Orville E. died about 8 years ago, Reuben S. Died at the age of 4 months and there was an adopted daughter Mrs. Pear Judd living at Balko, Okla. In later years they moved from York County to Custer County, Nebraska, making their home near Weissert. Mrs. Manning has been in poor health for a number of years, often wishing that death might relieve her of her suffering. She passed away at the home of her daughter, Mrs. A. R. Hinckley at St. Paul, Nebr. at the age of 70 years 3 months and 13 days. She leaves to mourn their loss an aged husband, 2 sons, one daughter, an adopted daughter, 16 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren and a host of friends. Mrs. Manning was the last of a family of 12 children, being the youngest. The body was brought to Sargent where services were held after which the remains were laid to rest in Somerford Cemetery.
