30th Annual Reunion
This was also in the paper: Mrs. Lucinda Stotter, of
Union, Neb, and Mrs. E J Taylor, of Geneva, Neb, sisters of N D Snyder, came to
spend the week and take in the big picnic. This is the first time in 28 years
the brother and sisters had met.
The following memorial report was read by Secretary
George Wilkins:
J.W. Davis, jr., aged 29 years, died at Isabell, South
Dakota, Sunday, September 9, 1910. He was born and reared in Dakota and was one
of its best young men.
On Wednesday, Sept. 21, 1910, Ora May Metz, aged 30
years, departed this life at her home in South Sioux City. She was a kind,
Christian woman and is missed by a host of friends.
Mrs. Elizabeth Wernick died at the home of her son,
O.A. Barber, near Jackson, Neb., at the age of 71 years. She had been a resident
of this county for a number of years. She died Oct. 11, 1910.
Frank Knudsen, aged 16 years, died at his home near
Homer, Neb., Friday, October 20, 1910. He was born and reared in this county.
On Monday, October 24, 1910, A. Frederick Berger
answered to the call of the grim reaper. He came to Dakota county in 1868, a
sturdy pioneer, and by his untiring efforts amassed a handsome competence. He
served his country during the civil war in company I, 2nd Nebraska cavalry.
Wm. Biggs, formerly a resident of this county, died at
his home in Knox county, Neb., Monday, Nov. 7, 1910, at the aged of 63 years.
John Nunn, a former resident of this county, died at
his home in Winnebago, Neb., Wednesday, November 9, 1910, at the age of 49
years. He was better known among the older settlers of this county.
Mrs. Patrick Rush died in a Sioux City hospital at the
ripe old age of 79. She came to this county a number of years ago.
On Wednesday, November 23, 1910, at the age of 49
years. Mrs. T.J. O’Connor, aged 38 years, crossed the dark river of death at her
home, in Homer, Neb. She was a kind hearted, Christian lady, and was admired by
all who knew here.
Mrs. Margaret Broyhill died at the home of her son,
G.F. Broyhill, at Dakota City, Monday, November 28, 1910, at the ripe old age of
81 years. She was one of those noble, Christian women and leaves a host of
friends to mourn her loss.
Mrs. Eliza L. Osman, aged 83 years, passed away at her
home in Los Angeles, Calif., Thursday, December 10, 1910. She formerly resided
in this county, was a good, Christian lady and highly respected.
Rev. P.F. McCarthy died at St. James Orphanage, at
Omaha, Tuesday, December 29, 1910. He had charge of St. Patrick’s Catholic
church at Jackson for a number of years and is missed by a large circle of
friends and acquaintances.
Mrs. Horace Dutton, one of the pioneer women of this
county, died at her home near Dakota City, Wednesday, December 21, 1910 at the
age of 70 years. She was a kind, Christian woman, and was admired by a wide
circle of friends.
On Thursday, December 30, 1910, Mrs. J.E. De Walt
crossed the dark valley of death at her home in Morningside, Io. She grew to
womanhood in this county, was a noble, Christian woman and leaves a host of
friends and acquaintances to mourn her loss.
1911
Mrs. Fred Beerman, aged 59 years, passed to the great
beyond, Thursday, January 5, 1911. She was a noble, Christian woman and spent
nearly all of her life in this county.
Isaac Fouts died at his home in South Sioux City,
January 8, 1911, at the age of 85. He came to Dakota county 24 years ago.
Wm. Leedom, formerly of this county, died at his home
in Huntington, California, at the age of 56 years. He was a genial man and
leaves a large number of friends to mourn his loss. His death occurred Jan. 12,
1911.
Stephen M. Rockwell, better known as ‘Uncle Steve’
Rockwell, died at Homer, Neb., Monday, January 16, 1911, at the age of 78 years.
He was a quiet, respected citizen, and was one of th early settlers of this
county.
Mrs. Anna Kloster, aged 75 years, died at the home of
her son, Henry Kloster, in Sioux City, January 16, 1911. She resided in this
county until about 15 years ago.
August Isenberg, aged 74 years, answered the final
summons at his home near Emerson, Monday, January 23, 1911. He was a highly
respected citizen and is missed by a wide circle of friends and acquaintances.
Mrs. Bertha Parker-Soole died at the home of her
parents, W.E. Parker and wife, South Sioux City, Jan. 28, 1911, at the age of
23.
Wm. Cheney came to Dakota county in 1855, crossed the
dark valley of death at his home near Daktoa City, Sunday, January 29, 1911, at
the age of 79 years; was an honored, respected citizen and was held in high
esteem by his large number of friends and acquaintances.
A.C. Carroll, departed this life at his home in Sioux
City, Iowa, at the time of 49 years, and had resided in this county up to about
a year ago. He crossed the dark river Jan. 30, 1911.
Grace Wood, aged 15 years, died at Homer, Friday,
February 3, 1911. She was a senior member of the Homer high school and would
have graduated at the close of the term.
Alexander M. Nixon, a pioneer resident of Homer,
passed to his eternal home, February 5, 1911, at the age of 52 years. He had
spent nearly all his life in this county.
Stella Miller, aged [5]4 years, died at her home in
South Sioux City, Monday, February 6, 1911. She has resided in this county for
fifteen years.
Cook D. Critchfield, a former resident of this county,
died at South Bend, Washington, Monday, February 6, 1911, at the age of 68
years.
Mrs. Patrick Dempsey passed away at her home near
Ponca, Neb., Tuesday, February 7, 1911, at the age of 83 years. She formerly
resided in this county.
John Blessing, a sturdy pioneer of 1867, departed this
life at his home near Jackson, Monday, February 20, 1911, at the age of 79
years. He served his country in the war of the rebellion in Co. I 2nd Neb.
cavalry and took great interest in this association.
Annie O’Brien crossed the dark river of death at her
home in South Sioux City, Tuesday, February 21, 1911, at the age of 71 years.
John McKinny, who was one of the early settlers of
this county, passed to the great beyond, at the home of his daughter, Mrs.
Jerrey DeForrest, at South Sioux City, February 23, 1911, at the age of 80
years; was a highly respected citizen in this community.
Henry Powell, who came to Dakota county in 1857, and
died at his home in Dakota City, on Wednesday, March 1, 1911, at the age of 84
years, was a quiet and peaceful citizen.
Perle L. Tucker died at his home in Phillips, Neb.,
Friday, March 3, 1911, at the age of 28 years. He formerly resided in this
county.
Mrs. Clara Berger Orr, aged 79 years, departed this
life March 9, 1911, at her home in Dakota City. She grew to womanhood in this
community, was a model wife and mother, and held in the highest esteem by the
entire community.
Peter McShane came to this county 38 years ago, died
at his home near Hubbard, Saturday, March 11, 1911, at the age of 82 years.
Robert L. Oxford, aged 68, died at the home of his
daughter, Mrs. H.M. Tollinger, South Sioux City, Sunday, March 12, 1911. He had
resided in this county a number of years.
On Tuesday, March 14, 1911, Martha Helen Lischke,
crossed the dark river of death at her home near Dakota City. She was 21 years
of age, grew to womanhood in this county and was beloved by a wide circle of
friends.
Mrs. George Hildebrand died at her home in South Sioux
City, Sunday, March 19, 1911, at the age of 79 years. She came to this county a
number of years ago.
Arthur Campbell, who died at his home in Emerson,
Tuesday, March 21, 1911, at the age of 63 years came to Dakota county 31 years
ago.
D.C. Dibble, came to Dakota County 88 years ago, died
at his home in Palo Alto, Calif., Thursday, March 23, 1911. He was held in high
esteem in this community.
Fred Melvin, a former resident of this county, died at
his home in Jefferson, D.D., Saturday, April 1, 1911.
Mrs. Catherine Hansen, aged 74, died at her home near
Emerson, April 6, 1911. She came to Dakota county about ten years ago.
Mrs. Clyde Reeves died at her home near Winnebago,
April 7, 1911. She was born and reared in this county.
J.F. Naffzigger, formerly a resident of this county,
died at his home in Denver, Col., on Tuesday, April 11, 1911, at the age of 44
years.
Mrs. Phelina Goodsell died at Homer, Friday, April 21,
1911, at the age of 64. She was a kind hearted, Christian woman and leaves a
large circle of friends to mourn her loss.
Mrs. Josephine J. Wellington, aged 65, died at her
home near Allen, April 16, 1911. She came to Daktoa county about 81 years ago.
On Tuesday, April 25, 1911, Mrs. Ezra Van Cleave died
at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Charles Jackson, at Decatur, Neb. at Decatur,
Neb. at the age of 78. She had resided in this country 30 years ago.
Frank Lampson, formerly a resident of Dakota county,
died in a Sioux City hospital, April 25, 1911.
John Zastrow, of Nacora, aged 76, died in a hospital
at Rockford, Ill., May 6, 1911.
Albert Pomrehn, who died at Pender, May 7, 1911, at
the age of 48, had lived here the greater part of his life.
James Ashley died at his home near Decatur May 12,
1911. He was one of the early settlers of this county and was respected by all
who knew him.
Leonard Kryger, who passed to his reward May 17, 1911,
at his home in South Sioux City, at the age of 66, was a prominent man, took
great interest in this association and is missed by a large circle of friends.
John O’Connor of Nacora, aged 55, who died in a Sioux
City hospital, May 20, 1911, spent nearly his entire life here.
On Tuesday, July 4, 1911, Mrs. Jane Don passed to the
great beyond at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Libbie Forbes, near Dakota City,
at the age of 88 years. She was one of the pioneer women and was a noble,
Christian woman.
David Dodson, who was born and reared in this country,
died at his home in Omaha, at the age of 47.
Mitchell Hattenbach, another of the old residents of
this county, died at his home in Cherokee, Iowa, August 6, 1911 at the age of 52
years.
Albert Lamson, who was born and reared in Dakota
county, died at the home of his sister, Mrs. B.J. Sheldon, of Walthill, at the
age of 61 years. He passed away July 18, 1911.
Wm. H. Crahan, aged 40, who died at his home at
Emerson, July 16, 1911, came to Dakota county a number of years ago.
W.W. Knowlton, aged 65, died in a Sioux City hospital,
July 17, 1911. He was a genial man, respected by all who knew him and took great
interest in this association.
Henry Bartels, aged 80, who died at his home near
Dakota City, July 26, 1911, was a quiet peaceful and respected citizen of this
county.
Mamie Hollman crossed the dark river of death at the
home of her brother, C.S. Hollman, of Sioux City, Iowa, August 6, 1911, at the
age of 59. She grew up to womanhood here, and had been an invalid nearly all her
life.
Gustav Berger, who came to this county in 1860,
entered into his eternal rest at the home of Will H. Orr, near Dakota City,
August 11, 1911, at the age of 80. He was a good man, took great interest in
this association and served his country in the war of the rebellion.
Mrs. Clara Welsh, of Hubbard, died in a Sioux City
hospital, August 17, 1911, age 22. She had resided in this county nearly all her
life.
George A. Eckhart, aged 80, died at his home in
Haywards, Calif., August 26, 1911. He was born and reared in this county.
