John P ‘Jack’ DeRoin

Jackson, Neb - John P. 'Jack' DeRoin, 70, of rural
Jackson died Monday shortly after arrival at a Sioux City hospital after being
stricken at his home.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in Becker-Hunt
Funeral Home in South Sioux City. The Rev. Terry Graham, pastor of the Gospel
Lighthouse, will officiate. Burial will be in Graceland Park Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday, with the family present from
7 to 9 p.m. in the funeral home.
Mr. DeRoin was born May 10, 1916, in Hubbard and was a
lifelong Jackson resident. He was an Army veteran of World War II. He married
Dorothy Sweisberger Boyle April 22, 1955, in Dakota City.
He was a mechanic for 30 years for Hirschback
Trucking, retiring in 1973. He then worked for his nephew at the Ira Love farm
for 10 years.
Mr. DeRoin was a former member of the American Legion.
Survivors include his wife; a son, Brad of Jackson;
seven stepsons, Johnny of Lawton, Iowa, Bill of South Sioux City, Butch of
Dakota City, Bob and Ray, both of Sioux City, Tom of Fort Polk, La., and Paul
Boyle of Allen; a stepdaughter, Dorothy Hoffman of Mount Ayr, Iowa; a brother,
Louis of South Sioux City; three sisters, Lottie Crane, Pearl Nelson and
Lorraine Sierk, all of South Sioux City; 24 grandchildren, and three
great-grandchildren.

Dorathy Sweisberger Boyle DeRoin

Services for Dorathy Sweisberger Boyle DeRoin, 72, of
Jackson, who died Sunday, July 12, 1992, at a South Sioux City nursing home
after a long illness were Thursday at Becker-Hunt Funeral Home in South Sioux
City.
The Rev. Jeffrey Zyla officiated. Burial was in
Graceland Park Cemetery in Sioux City.
Pallbearers were Kenny, Russ, Kirk, Rodney and Vince
Boyle and John Hoffman.
Mrs. DeRoin was born June 20, 1920, in Watertown,
S.D., the daughter of Charles and Henrietta (Young) Sweisberger. She married
John Boyle Feb 1, 1939. He died in 1954. She married John P 'Jack' DeRoin April
22, 1955, in Dakota City. He died Dec. 8, 1986, in Sioux City.
Survivors include eight sons, Johnny Boyle of Lawton,
Iowa, Bill Boyle of South Sioux City, Butch Boyle of Dakota City, Bob and Ray
Boyle, both of Sioux City, Tom Boyle of Colorado Springs, Colo., Paul Boyle of
Allen, Neb., and Brad DeRoin of Jackson; a daughter, Dorothy Anne Hoffman of
LaMotte, Iowa; two brothers, George of South Sioux City and Charles of Pilot
Rock, Ore.; five sisters, Joyce Prescott of Sioux City, Charlotte Powell of
Hornick, Iowa, Henrietta Gill and Margaret Boyle, both of Jackson, and Helen
Boyle of Worthington, Minn.; 24 grandchildren; and 10 great grandchildren.
She also was preceded in death by a brother, Bill.

Andrew H. Deman

Andrew H. ‘Andy’ Deman, 82, of South Sioux City died
Monday, Sept. 8, 1997, at his residence following a brief illness.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Michael
Catholic Church in South Sioux City, with the Rev. Ross Burkhalter officiating.
Burial will be from 4 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, with a Knights of Columbus rosary at
7 p.m. and a scriptural wake service at 7:30 p.m., at the Becker-Hunt Funeral
Home.
Mr. Deman was born Feb. 3, 1915, in Decatur, Neb., the
son of Andrew H. and Emma M. (Betts) Deman. He graduated from high school and
was employed as a foreman with Wilson Trailer in Sioux City before retiring.
He married Helen M. Atterbury in 1937, in Dakota City.
He was a member of St. Michael Catholic Church, the
Knights of Columbus and the Father Trecy Council.
Survivors include his wife; a son and his wife, Greg
and Francine of Sioux City; a daughter and her husband, Mary Ann and Bob Worrell
of Los Angeles, Calif.; a sister, Mable Belheimer of Wayne, Neb.; six
grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Raymond Dyer

Raymond Dyer, of North Riverside, Sioux City was
buried here last Friday. His death occurred on Wednesday, last week from
tuberculous. He was a single Monday, age 30 years. His father was buried here
about a year ago.

Mr. and Mrs. Charles Varvais attended the funral of
Mr. Durfain at Hartington, Wednesday. Mr. Dufaine was an uncle of Mr. Varvais.
