DEATH CLAIMS PONCA PIONEER

Milbury Burgette Dies on His 88th Birthday Anniversary.

Wednesday was the 88th birthday anniversary of Milbury Burgette, for 66 years a resident of Ponca, Neb., but death cut short the celebration by claiming the life of the pioneer as he lay in a Sioux City hospital.

Born in Ohio on April 29, 1837, Mr. Burgette came to Iowa in 1866 and was married to Miss Anna Lyons. One year later his bride was claimed by death. The pioneer then traveled into Nebraska and settled at Ponca, where he was married to Mrs. Zyltha Stickney, in 1873.

Ten years later Mr. Burgette and his wife and three children set out in a covered wagon over a trail that had its ending in Oregon. One year later, unsatisfied by what he found there, the Burgette family covered the same route on the return trip to Ponca. Mrs. Burgette died in 1915.

Mr. Burgette is survived by three children: Mrs. Minnie Hoopingarner and Mrs. Betty Crandall, of Sioux City, and Milbury Burgette, jr., of Rice Lake, Wis.; two stepchildren, Mrs. Cora L. Mason, of Sioux City, and Frank Stickney, Portland, Ore.; 11 grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

The body of the deceased will be held at the home of Mrs. Cora L. Mason, 1521 South Pattersen street, today. Funeral services will be held Friday afternoon at 2:30 o’clock at the Methodist Episcopal church at Ponca, of which Mr. Burgette was a member for 42 years.

Interment will be in Ponca cemetery. W. Harry Christy, mortician, is in charge of funeral arrangements.
