Russell. Bailey was born to James L. Bailey and Edithe M. Wilcox Bailey on Feb.15, 1931, at Carleton, and passed away Dec.12, 1999,at the Bryan LGH East Hospital in Lincoln at the age of 68 years, 9 months and 17 days. He was one of 3 children in the family.
Russell graduated from Carleton High School in 1948. He was married to Wilma Faye Baker on Nov. 2, 1952, in Carleton and to this union two sons were born, Steve and Alan. Russell was honorably discharged from the United States Air Force in 1956. They moved back to Carleton
where he was engaged in farming until moving to Geneva in 1959. He then took employment with Mobil Oil. He retired from Mobil in 1988.
Russell was a member of the Geneva Masonic Lodge No.79 and the Davenport Masonic Lodge No.154, the Meridian Shrine Club of York, and the Sesostois Shrine of Lincoln.
Russell and his wife enjoyed 21 years of camping and traveling throughout the United States. In 1994 they started wintering in Arizona which they really enjoyed.
Russell was preceded in death by his parents James and Edithe and baby brother James Earl. He is survived by his wife Wilma Faye; two sons Steve of Geneva, and Alan and wife Mary Jeanne of Geneva; three grandsons Brian, Cody and Kyle Bailey; sister Isabelle Swenson of Lincoln; mother-in-law Thelma Baker of Geneva; two nephews Jim Swenson and wife Karen and Sam Swenson and wife Sue all of Valparaiso.
Funeral services were conducted from the United Methodist Church in Geneva, on Thursday, Dec.16, 1999 with Rev. Brian Kottas officiating. Susan Kleinschmidt accompanied JoAnn Row who sang "Ivory Palaces" and "In The Garden."
Casket bearers were Gerald Brinegar, Stewart Brinegar, Wesley McMullen, Wayne Stone, Bob Harrison, and Jerry Wachtel. The Geneva Masonic Lodge AF & AM Lodge No.79 provided Masonic services.
Interment was in the Carleton City Cemetery, with Farmer & Son Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.
Memorials are directed to the Masonic Lodges of Geneva and Davenport.
