Winifred Carson

Winifred Anita Storm Carson was born Feb 26, 1917 and passed away on March 2, 2000. She was born an only daughter of Jesse Haskin Storm and Adam Storm.
As a small child, she lived in a soddy on the plains of South Dakota homesteaded by her parents and maternal grandparents. Upon returning to Nebraska, her father was section foreman for the CB&Q railroad. She lived and traveled through most of Nebraska until her teenage years when her family settled in Malcolm. Her mother died of cancer when she was 16 years old in Malcolm.
She and her father then moved to Fairmont. She graduated from Fairmont High School. There she met her husband and was married to Ora Dale Carson for 58 years until his death in 1993. Her best friend was her sister-in-law, Phyllis Ilo Carson Shappell. She and Phyllis graduated the same year from high school. She and Dale both attended the 50th year reunion of Fairmont High. Richard Dale Carson was born Dec. 4, 1935 and he was their only son.
Winifred had a natural gift with children and animals and they loved her back with the same passion that she showed them. She was always there for her nieces and nephews as they grew up and met their needs when needed. Her house was always open for people to drop in and have a cup of coffee or if you were a stranger traveling with your horse to a horse show somewhere and had a break down, you spent the night with the Carsons. You did not drop off your horse and go to a motel.
She is survived by her son Dick; daughter-in-law, Fran; grandson, Sean; granddaughter, Nikki and great grandson Brenden; brother-in-law, James Shappell; nieces, Marilee Clay and husband Bill, Jackie Rodriguez and husband Richard, Karen Flores and husband Mike, Susan Campbell and husband Scott and nephew Don Hayes and his wife Marilyn. She had 12 great-grand nieces and nephews and six great-great grand nieces and nephews and as she always used to say so many relatives she couldn’t count them all.
Graveside service was held on Tuesday, March 7, 2000 at 2 p.m. at the Fairmont Cemetery in Fairmont with the Rev. Ken West of the United Methodist Church officiating.
Wadlow Rozanek Colonial Chapel of Lincoln was in charge of the arrangements.
