John Stewart Catlett, 84, of Lincoln, died Wednesday, Jan. 19,2000.

He was born in Stratton, on Sept. 28, 1915 to Charles and Lillie (Burton) Catlett.

He graduated from Haigler High School and received his Bachelor of Science degree from Nebraska Wesleyan University and received a masters degree from the University of

Nebraska at Lincoln.

He was married to Louise Weary, his life long sweetheart, of Chester on Nov.24, 1938.

The son of a Methodist minister, Stewart, spent his entire life dedicated to Nebraska youth and their education.

He was a superintendent of 13 different Nebraska schools throughout his career: High Prairie, 1938; Nickerson, 1939; Yutan, 1942; Cedar Bluffs, 1944; Huntley, 1946; Ulysses, 1950; Nelson, 1953; Haigler, 1954; Shickley, 1956; Lawrence, 1968; Benedict, 1970 Venago, 1974; and Elk Creek;, 1979.

He was World Book Encyclopedia district manager from 1963-1965, Johnson County superintendent from 1983-1995 and he served in the U.S. Army WWII from 1944 to1946.

He was a current member of St Paul United Methodist Church in Lincoln and formerly a member of the United Methodist Church in Tecumseh.

Survivors include his wife, Louise of Lincoln; sons, Duane Catlett and wife Jean of Nederland, Colo.; Jerry Catlett and wife Ginger of Omaha and Walt Catlett and wife Jolene of North Platte; daughters, Mary Beck and husband Tom and Becky Waldo all of Lincoln; 12 grandchildren seven great grandchildren; brothers Dwight Catlett and wife Margaret of Hastings; Lyle Catlett and wife Para Mae of Denver, Colo. and Willard Catlett of St. Charles, MO.; and sister. in-law Pearl Catlett of Lincoln.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Richard.

Memorial service was held a United Methodist Church in Tecumseh on Saturday, Jan.22, 2000 at 3 p.m. with Rev. Dr. Rex Bevins.

A private family burial was held al Tecumseh Cemetery.
