Joseph A. Cecrle was born June 30, 1921, south of Friend, to Joseph F. and Charlotte Bulin Cecrle. He died Thursday, Feb.10, 2000, at the St. Elizabeth Hospital in Lincoln at the age of 78 years, 7 months and 10 days.

He attended school at District No. 57 south of Friend until the eight grade. He helped on the family farm until joining the army during World War II from Oct. 19,1942 until July 9, 1944. Following his return from the army he lived on a farm east of Milligan. He enjoyed working on the farm with his brother and raising ducks and chickens.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph F. and Charlotte; by brother Henry and sister Alba.

He is survived by brother, Louis and wife Bonnie Cecrle of Friend; nephews, nieces, step nephew and nieces and many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m., Feb. 14, 2000, from the Farmer & Son Funeral Home-Kotas Chapel in Milligan with Rev. Kim Dunker officiating.

Diane Zeleny accompanied Robert Kassik who sang "An Evening Prayer" and "Beautiful Isle of Somewhere" in Czech. Casket bearers were Eugene Girmus, Scott Girmus, David Michl, Norman Tesar, Robert Vnoucek, and Jim Voth.

Interment was in the Bohemian National Cemetery south of Milligan.

Memorials are directed to the Milligan Rescue Unit.
