John Roy Dob, 81, of DuBois, was born April 5, 1918, at Belgrade, to Joseph and Josephine Slama Dobrovolny. He passed away Feb. 13, 2000 at the Community Hospital in Marysville, Kan.

John lived in DuBois since 1919. He graduated from the DuBois High School with the class of 1936. John served his country during World War II at Fort Riley, Kan. as a general carpenter. While there he qualified as a rifle sharp shooter. After his military service, John returned to DuBois and went into home construction and cabinet building. JJ Construction was considered to be one of southeast Nebraska's premier home builders.

John was united in marriage to Millie Svanda of Humboldt, June27, 1951. They were blessed with two children, Nancy Ann and John Jay.

In the mid-1960's the family moved to Denver, Colo. for three years before returning to DuBois.

John enjoyed fishing, hunting, and auto travels. He took pride in his cabinet making and fine woodworking. He made many beautiful things with his strong carpenter's hands. He truly was a master craftsman.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Ernest and Emil; sisters, Evelyn Obrist, and Mollie Downey and an infant daughter.

He leaves to mourn his passing his loving close family, wife, Millie of DuBois; son, John Jay of Lincoln; daughter, Dr. Nancy Dob and her husband Dan Pedersen of Benedict; brother, Milton Dobrovolny and wife, Maxine of Denver, Colo., and sister, Mildred Borg of Omaha.

A memorial service in honor of John's life was held Thursday, Feb. 17,2000 at the DuBois United Methodist Church, with Pastor Jo Harper officiating.

A committal service will be held at a later date.
