Henry Lentfer

Henry A. (Hank) Lentfer was born Oct. 9, 1918 at the farm near Strang to Julius and Sophie Lentfer. He passed away June 12, 2000 at the Medical Center in Weslaco, Texas at the age of 81.

He was one of 12 children in the family.

He was married to Irene Braden of Geneva on March 29, 1939.

He was inducted into the Army and served in Europe during World War II as a Military Police Officer. After the war, he and Irene lived in Lincoln, where Henry worked for the University of Nebraska at the tractor testing lab.

They moved to Waterloo, Iowa in 1955 where Hank worked for John Deere until retirement. After he retired, they made their home in Weslaco, Texas.

Henry and Irene enjoyed camping, fishing and being with friends and family. One of his favorite hobbies was wood-carving.

Henry was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Alice; and brothers, Ernest, Edwin and George.

He is survived by his wife, Irene; sons, James Lentfer of Waterloo, Iowa and Paul and Cathy Lentfer of Waterloo, Iowa; four grandchildren, Tai, Tony, Josh and Hannah all of Waterloo; a step-granddaughter and two step-great grandchildren; brother, Ervin of Lincoln, Julius of Bruning, Raymond of Strang and Lawrence of Geneva; sisters, Wilma Getz of Weslaco, Texas, Alberta Hulse of Fayetteville, Ark., and LuEtta Strothkamp of Geneva; numerous nieces and nephews and many friends.

Funeral services were held at St. Joseph Catholic Church on Friday, June 16, 2000 at 10 a.m.

Burial with military graveside services were in St. Joseph cemetery.

Farmer & Son Funeral Home was in charge of the service.
