Fieldon Thomas Hawks was born to Thomas A. Hawks and Carrie M. Wilken Hawks in Bruning, on April 19, 1915. He died at his home in Chandler, Arjz. on Dec.17, 1999 at the age of 84 years, 7.months and 28 days.

He was baptized and confirmed in the English Lutheran Church and was transferred by Confession of Faith to the Bruning Methodist Church in January of l925.

The first years of Fieldon's youth were spent on the Aden farm East of Bruning attending country school and helping with all the farming. In 1928, Tom and Carrie and Fieldon moved to Longmont, Colorado. Two years later they returned to Bruning where Fieldon completed high school.

Fieldon and Leona Johnson were united in marriage on Sept. 3, 1933 in Belleville, Kan. and then moved to a farm near Carleton where Howard and Joanne were born. In 1939, Fieldon packed the family and possessions into a 1928 Chevy and moved to Englewood, Colo. where he was employed at Gates Rubber Company. The family returned to Bruning in 1944 and later moved to the Hawks home place where Sharon and Tom were born. It was at this time that Fieldon, now known as Felix, became the pitcher for the local Bruning baseball team and for several different area teams for $1.00 an out.

In 195l, Fieldon obtained his pilot's license and enjoyed flying his Piper Cub for several years. Fieldon became an Insurance Agent in 1961 and moved from the farm to town in 1966, where he pursued his insurance career full time. He worked for several insurance companies and then contracted with Continental General Insurance Company and became a Regional Manager.

In 1978, Fieldon and Leona began spending winters in Arizona and in 1980 purchased a mobile home and became official snowbirds hitting the golf courses full force. Fieldon loved sports immensely, especially his golf games and annual family hunting and fishing trips, until his health prevented him from participating. After several years of being unable to go fishing, Fieldon enjoyed "one more time" when he went with Tom, Chris and Jeff, flying to Lake McConaughey to go fishing over Labor Day Weekend of this year.

Fieldon and Leona were avid fans of the Nebraska Cornhuskers and had season tickets for many years attending all the home games until he was physically unable. Due to the building of the SkyBoxes at Memorial Stadium they were able to enjoy two more Nebraska home games together with other family members.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Tom and Carrie; sister, Dorothy and husband Melvin Garrels and grandson, Chris Hawks.

He is survived by his wife Leona; son, Howard and wife Myrna of Omaha; daughters, JoAnne Lubben and husband Don of Bruning; daughter, Sharon Mulligan and husband Eldon of Mesa, Ariz.; son, Tom and wife HuLaine of Geneva; 14 grand-children, 20 great grandchildren, three great-great grandchildren, four brothers-in-law, five sisters-in-law, one aunt, nieces, nephews, cousins and other family members and friends.

Funeral services were conducted from the United Methodist Church in Bruning at 10:30a.m., Dec. 22, 1999, with Pastor Lila Bottolfsen officiating. Kathy Priefert accompanied the congregational singing of "Precious Lord, Take My Hand" and Eldon Mulligan who sang "Swing Low, Sweet Chariot" and Tamara Mulligan and Dawn Murphy who sang "The Lord's Prayer."

Casket bearers were Neal Hawks, Tim Hawks, Troy Hawks, Greg Lubben, Monte Lubben, Mitch Branting, Matt Branting, Jeff Hawks, James Tietjen, Jamie Veik, and Steve Murphy.

Interment was in the Bruning Public Cemetery with the Farmer & Son Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Memorials are directed to the Hawks Family.
