Donald Frank Laun, 78, of Pawnee City, passed away on Sunday, Feb. 27, 2000, at his home.

He was born in Milligan on Aug. 26, 1921, the only child of Frank Tom and Emma Mary (Krejdle) Laun.

He attended grade school in the Milligan area and graduated from Milligan High School in 1939. Upon graduation he began farming with his father.

The family moved to the Liberty area, then to the Bookwalter area where he continued farming with his father and worked for neighboring farmers.

On Dec. 20, 1941, Don married Aryloween Vaughn in Marysville, Kan. To this union one daughter Joyce Eileen was born.

Don and Aryloween enjoyed their life on the farm together. Don loved animals. He enjoyed raising mules, riding horses and even the milking chores. To add to the family income Don began working for Pawnee County, in 1961 as a maintainer operator and retired 32 years later.

Don was a member of the Burchard United Methodist Church, ZCBJ Lodge in DuBois, and Order of Eagles in Beatrice.

He was preceded in death by his parents and grandson-in-law lance Orton.

He is survived by his wife, Aryloween; daughter, Joyce and son-in-law Ted Pearson, of Red Oak, Iowa; one granddaughter, Linda Orton, two great grandchildren, Levi and Leigha Orton, Sabetha, Kan.

Services were at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, March 1, 2000 with Wherry Brothers Mortuary of Pawnee City in charge.

Duane Tramp officiated the ceremony.

Active pallbearers were Harold Tennant, Lloyd Stepan, Dale Dorsch, Bill Hansel, Clarence McClintock, Garry Harris and Honorary pallbearer Levi Orton, Emil Michal, Everett Rinne, George Kriefel, Leigha Orton, Bob Laun, Charles Clark, John Young, Bob Clark, Dave McClintock, and Charles Morin.

Music was "Dancing Shoes" played on tape and Bob and Greg Blecha, sang a duet of Czech Medley of Songs with Mrs. Mary Alice Timmermans as organist.

Interment was at the Pawnee City Cemetery in Pawnee City.
