John William Pickerill was born at Woodford IL June 28, 1854. He was united in marriage to Mary Elizabeth Flick Feb. 19,1874. They came the same year to Geneva NE where they spent the rest of their days. To them were born nine children, three of whom preceded their father in death.
He was a highly respected citizen and a good husband and father. He had been in declining health for about six months and came to life's closing at the home of his daughter, Mrs.O.A. Merrill, October 4, 1930 having reached the age of 76 years, 3 months and 6 days.
Two sisters survive him; Mrs. Mollie Metzker, residing in Louisiana and Mrs. Louise Hubbard of Maryville MO. The children who are left to mourn his passing are Mrs. D.G. McGaffy of Lincoln NB, Mrs. O.A. Merrill of Geneva,
George F Pickerill of Geneva, Mrs. Herb Madison of Roscoe, Mrs. Robert Hafer of Geneva and Mrs. Claude Dingham of Fairbury. There are also twenty grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren. A large circle of friends sympathize with the bereaved ones in their sorrow.
Funeral services were held from the home of Mrs. O.A. Merrill Sunday afternoon and were in charge of Rev. E.H. Pontius. The body was laid to rest in the Geneva Cemetery.
