Ethel S. Sievers was born Nov. 13, 1908, to Martin A. and Mary W. Lambertus Sievers at Gothenburg. She died Feb. 3, 2000, at the Heritage Home in Geneva at the age of 91 years, 2 months and 21 days. She was one of eight children in the family. She was baptized Nov.29, 1929, at the St. John's Lutheran Church in Gothenburg. Ethel attended school in Gothenburg until the family moved to Lincoln in 1925. She graduated from the Lincoln High School and received her Bachelor and Master's degrees from the University of Nebraska. Upon obtaining her degrees, she began a career in teaching which spanned nearly forty years in four Nebraska schools.

She was a member of the Geneva High School Faculty for 32 oft those years. Teaching was her life and she always said she enjoyed every day of from the time she started until the last day and it was the only profession she ever wanted. Many Geneva graduates over the years can thank Miss Sievers for their ability in business typing and shorthand. She was meticulous in her class preparation and in getting her students motivated to learn.

Ethel was also active in many organizations and was interested in many activities that carried over from her Lincoln years: Husker football, Alumni Association, Lincoln Concert Series and the Lincoln Community Players. She maintained contact with those former friends combining this with her activities and friends made in Geneva. She was a member of P.E.O., Eastern Star, Book Review, National Retired Teachers Association, OK Kensington, Prince of Peace Lutheran Church and while able, willingly delivered Meals on Wheels.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Martin and Mary Sievers; brothers, Anton J., William, Thomas, William E., Martin and Stanley S. Sievers; sister, Edith A. Carleson of Gothenburg and by a niece who was like a sister, Dorothy L. Blattspieler. She is survived by a sister-in-law, Gladys Arlene Sievers of Fairfield Calif. and by many nieces, nephew and grand nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were conducted a 10:00 a.m., Monday, Feb. 7, 2000 from the Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Geneva with Pastor Mike Osberg officiating. Congregational hymns were "Old Rugged Cross' "How Great Thou Art", and "Beautiful Savior."

Casket bearers were Vaughn Fulton, Kenneth Gibson, Herman Larson, Joe Schelkopf, Bill Turek and Dick Wagner.

Graveside services were held at 2:30 p.m., Monday from the Gothenburg City Cemetery with

Farmer & Son Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Memorials are directed to Prince of Peace Lutheran Church or to the Fillmore County Hospital Auxiliary.
