Esther Marshall Sloan was born on Nov. 1, 1899 to H.W. and Allie Marshall of Arlington and died in Eugene, Ore. on Dec. 9, at the age of 100. Her parents and her husband of 43 years, William McKinley Sloan, preceded her in death.

She graduated from Arlington High School in 1918, and the University of Nebraska in 1922, studied at College Park, Md. and took graduate study in theatre at U.S.C.

Before her marriage to William Sloan in June of 1929, she taught in Arlington, Fremont and Omaha and worked as a librarian in New York City and Paris, France. During her marriage, she lived in Geneva and Lincoln, moving to Eugene, Ore. with her family in 1948.

She was a member of Delta Gamma Sorority, P.E.O., Fortnightly, Kensington, and Oregon Mom, and acted in Eugene's Very Little Theatre.

Although she worked during World War II, she was primarily a homemaker. She loved traveling, attending the theatre and playing bridge. The beach at Bandon was a very special place for her.

She is survived by her son, William Marshall Sloan of Grants Pass, Ore., her daughter Sally Hannum of Eugene, Ore.; seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
