Rigby, Idaho—Walter J. Stauffer, 78, of Rigby, Idaho, died Nov. 28, 1996, at Columbia Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center in Idaho Falls.

He was born Oct 19, 1918, in Lincoln, To George and Lillie Ohler Stauffer. He was educated in Lincoln, then worked as a farmer, for a brief time for the railroad as a mechanic, and again returned to farming.

In 1937, he married Myrtis M. Myers in Nebraska. She preceded him in death in 1964. During this time, he moved back and forth between Nebraska and Idaho, but finally settled here in the 1950s and retired in Rigby at age 65.

Survivors include his two sons, James Walter Stauffer of Rio Rancho, NM, and Jerry Stauffer of Rigby, Idaho; two daughters, Judy Ann Dodds of Enumclaw, WA, and Janic Kay Abegglen of Lewisville, ID; a sister, Bertha Virgil of Ammon, ID; nine grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother.

Funeral services were held at Buck-Miller-Hann Funeral Home, 825 E. 17th St. in Idaho Falls with Pastor Michael Sheridan officiating. Burial was in the Ucon Cemetery.
