The Late Eugene Stowell

Luther Eugene Stowell was
born five miles from Rochester, Monroe county New York, April 27, 1841, and
died at his home in Geneva, Neb., Saturday morning, December 20, 1913 at
8:45. He was 72 years, 7 months and 23 days old at the time of death. At
the age of thirteen years he came with his parents to Illinois. In 1862 he enlisted
in the army and served two years and ten months. At the close of the war he
returned to his home in Illinois. December 20, 1866, he was married to Nancy E.
Pickerill at Elpaso., Ill. In 1877 they came to Nebraska and lived five miles
south of Geneva for a few years, then they removed to Geneva, where he spent
the remaining years of his life. To this union were born ten children, five
preceding the father in death. The living are Frances E. Wheeldon, Jessie M.
Hollenberger, Myrtle L. Stowell, Harry E. Stowell, Byron O. Stowell. He also
leaves five grandchildren.
The funeral arrangements
were in charge of Wilson post No. 22, G.A.R. of Geneva, of which the deceased
was a member. The funeral took place from the family residence at 2 o'clock
Tuesday afternoon and was conducted by Rev. Thomas Griffiths of Edgar.
Interment was in the Geneva cemetery.
