Robert Dean Strothkamp was born to Robert Earl and Anna Marie Diederich Strothkamp on Jan 25, 1941 at Geneva, and passed away Dec 19 1999,at the Fillmore County Hospital in Geneva, at the age of 58 years 10 months, and 24 days. He was one of two children in the family.
Bob was baptized and confirmed in the Catholic faith. He attended Districts No.3 and No.45 near Geneva and ore year of Catholic School in Geneva. He then attended the Geneva Public School starting in the sixth grade and graduated from the Geneva High School with the Class of 1958.
Bob farmed all his life in the Fillmore County area. He always liked to get in the field in the spring to smell the fresh dirt being turned over. He also worked for Carol's Uncle Pete Schroder at the nursery in Geneva a couple summers when he was first married. In later years following Pete's death Bob often would observe a tree and quote what Pete used to say when seeing the same problem Bob ran the grader for Madison Township for many years, and measured for the ASCS in Fillmore County. He also owned and ran the Geneva Computer Service for a few years.
Bob was married to Carol Eppler of Geneva on Aug.28, 1959, and to them three sons were born, Michael Gregory, and Todd.
He loved computers and worked many hours at his computer, e-mailing friends, relatives, and classmates. People would call him for help or advice when having computer problems especially his sister-in-law, Marilyn. Bob loved his family and his grand-children. His last afternoon was spent videoing. his sons, daughters-in-law, and grandchildren opening Christmas presents.
Bob was preceded in death by his father, Earl Strothkamp.
He is survived by his wife, Carol of Geneva, his mother, Anna Strothkamp of Geneva; three sons, Mike and wife, Becky of Bruning; Greg of Geneva; and Todd and wife, Dianne of York; grandchildren, Amber of Bruning; Tanner and Taylor of York; step-grandchildren, Justin, Jarod and Jeanna Loeffler, all of York; brother, Richard and wife, DeAnna of Geneva; and nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Funeral services were conducted from Farmer & Son Funeral Home in Geneva on Thursday, Dec.23, with Father Walter Banach officiating. Carole Prater accompanied the SL Joseph's Women's Choir who sang "Amazing Grace" and "In The Garden." Casket Bearers were Frank Heinisch, Stuart Luttich, Jim Steider, LaVern Novak, Rodney Hinrichs, and Steve Roemmich.
Interment was in the Geneva Public Cemetery with Farmer & Son Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Memorials are directed to American Heart Association or the Geneva Rescue Unit.
