Mable Viola Ward was born to Thomas E. Hall and Ada Stewart Hall on April 29, 1907 at Strang in Belle Prairie Township and passed away Jan.16, 2000, at the Fairview Manor in Fairmont at the age of 92 years, 8 months and 16 days. She was one of three children in the family.

Mable lived on a farm northwest of Strang in Belle Prairie Township, later moving with her parents to a farm in Chelsea Township. Mable attended country school number 76 finishing the eighth grade.

Mable was married to Alva Willard Ward of Geneva on June 14, 1928, and to them two children were born. After her marriage to Alva they moved to a farm north of Geneva, in Geneva Township. After the death of her husband, she moved to town and resided in Geneva until her recent move to Fairview Manor in Fairmont, in April of 1999. Her favorite occupation was being a farmwife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

Mable’s favorite pastime was dancing. She especially liked square dancing and she and her husband were a member of the Circle Eight Square Dance club. Also high on her list was playing cards. She enjoyed playing pitch with her friends and neighbors. Mable also was a member of the Geneva Township club and many times mentioned this as her favorite afternoon get away from home for a fun time. She also loved her afternoon coffees with her lady friends.

Mable was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas and Ada Hall; husband, Alva; son, Willard; grand-son, Bill Carnes; and sisters, Hazel Tatro and Norma Michener.

She is survived by her daughter, Marie Ward Aspegren and husband Percy of Geneva; six grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren and nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were conducted from the Farmer & Son Funeral Home in Geneva, on Jan.20, 2000, with Rev. Brian Kottas officiating. Musical selections for the service were "Going Home" and "God Be With You Till We Meet Again."

Casket bearers were Dan Aspegren, Derek Aspegren, Ryan Aspegren, Don Aspegren, Doug Roth, Nick Roth and Garrett Baum. Honorary bearers were Mike Carnes, Ronald Tatro, Robert Kamier and Fritz Kamler.

Interment was in the Geneva Public Cemetery.

Memorials are directed to the Geneva Senior Center or the Fairview Manor.

Card of Thanks

Our family would like to thank the entire staff of Fairview Manor. You made Mable's time there a time she enjoyed. A special thanks to Dr. Ashby, your care and forethought saved many a day for Mable. And last but not least "thank you" to everyone for every kind word, every hug and all the cards, food, flowers and whatever else you did that makes the loss of a mother and grandmother easier to bear.
