Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church Cemetery

This cemetery is approximately 2 mile south of Ohiowa, Nebraska.  The church was started on 25 Sep 1887 by 15 pioneer families. The charter members of the church were: William Nierstheimer, Chris Gewecke, William Molthan, Sr., Henry Gewecke, Henry Dearking, Christ Schweer, Henry Schweer, William Schweer, Henry Rippe, Barnhart Krug, William Schroder, Henry Kappmeyer, Louis Rippe, William Gewecke and Ernst Molthan.

William Molthan, Sr. donated five acres for the church. It was 0.5 miles west and 2 miles south of Ohiowa, NE. The church was dedicated on 18 May 1888 and was called St. John's German Lutheran Church. In 1917 a new church building was erected and was dedicated on 06 Aug 1917.

From the time the church was started until 1945, the services at this church were conducted in German In 1945, the services were conducted in English. They also decided to drop the word German from the name of the church so it was known as St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church. In 1954, the church was re-organized and became the Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church.

Child Baptism: Minnie (Meyers) Schroder 18 Dec 1887
Boy Baptism: Herman Molthan 28 Jan 1888
Burial: Infant son of Mr. and Mrs. Christ Schweer 27 Nov 1887
Confirmation Class: Adolf Gewecke, Minna Gewecke, Joe Gewecke, Emma Dearking, Martha Molthan
and Anna Krug. They were confirmed on 22 Apr 1888

Marriage in the present building: Edward Dittmer and Louise Rippe married 04 Oct 1917
Baptism in the present building: Vernon Johnson, 23 Sep 1917
