Landy Jefferson Hurst was born in Boone county Iowa, November 17, 1857 and died at the home of his sister, Mrs. R. S. Russell, near Grafton, Nebraska, December 13, 1918; aged sixty-one years and twenty-six days.

On April 19, 1886, he was united in marriage to Miss Ella Andrews at Des Moines, Iowa.  To this union five children were born, two of whom preceded the father in death.  Those who remain to mourn his loss are Carl and Clay, who are with the American forces in France and Mrs. Lela Whitman of Ankeny, Iowa.

Practically all of his life was spent in Iowa.  About one year ago he went to Wyoming in the hope of benefiting his health.  He returned to Nebraska about six weeks ago and since that  time had failed rapidly.

Beside the children mentioned above, he leaves five sister and five brothers; Mrs. J. Madison of Geneva, Mrs. Lyda Paxton of Burr Oak, Kansas, Miss May of Geneva, Mrs. T. S. Russell of Grafton, Miss Bessie of Hastings, John H. and Andrew J. of Greybull, Wyoming; James I. of Alma, Nebraska; Joseph E. of Sheridan, Wyoming; and W. H. of Fairmont.

Funeral services were held from the home of Mrs. Russell Saturday afternoon, conducted by Rev. Unger of the Grafton Congregational church and interment was made in the Fairmont cemetery.
