Kate Rakestraw, daughter of John and Angelina Weerts was born October 19, 1876, in New Comos, Ill.  The family moved to Strang, Neb., where she spent her girlhood.

 

She was married to John E. Rakestraw in Strang, Neb., October 22, 1896.  Here she made her home the rest of her life.

 

She was confirmed in the Lutheran church when a young girl and was a member until her death.  She was very active in all of the church and social affairs of her community and her passing will be felt keenly by all who knew her.

 

She became ill last October and in February went to Omaha for medical care.  There, in Immanuel hospital, she passed away March 7, 1945.

 

She leaves to mourn her husband, a son, Percy of Willow Springs, Mo., a daughter, Ruhama, of Independence, Mo., seven grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, a brother, George Weerts of Denver, Col., and a sister, Mrs. Gustie Labart of Bertrand, Neb.

 

She was a devoted wife and mother and spent her entire life in making her family happy.  She leaves a host of neighbors and friends who will long remember her.

 

A short service was held Saturday afternoon at the Hauberk funeral home in Geneva, followed by services at the String United Brethren church, Rev. Walter Millett officiating.  Burial was in the Harmony cemetery.
