August W. Skoglund was born in Sweden January 6, 1863. He came to the
United States, settling at Moline, Ill., in 1869, later coming in 1884 to
Fillmore county, Nebraska, near Geneva, where he had since resided. He
died September 5, 1932, at the age of 69 years, 7 months and 29 days.
He was married to Miss Augusta M. Anderson September 11, 1894. To this
union were born two sons, Walter Skoglund of Shickley and Clyde Skoglund of
Geneva, who, whth their mother and three grandchildren, together with the two
sisters, Mrs. John Nelson and Mrs. John Toren, both of Geneva, and numerous
other relatives survive him.
For some years Mr. Skoglund had made his home with his sons, alternating
between their homes. Several months ago while at the home of his son
Clyde, the scene of his own homestead, he suffered a stroke from which he did
not recover.
Mr. Skoglund was baptized
and confirmed in the Swedish Lutheran church in childhood and retained his
membership in that church through life. He was a splendid member and will
be greatly missed in his neighborhood.
The funeral service was
conducted at the Methodist church in Geneva Wednesday afternoon at 2:30,
conducted by the pastor, Rev. W.H. Shoaf, who spoke from the text, "We
haave here no continuing city." Heb. 13:14. The music was furnished
by a quartet consisting of Mrs. Leslie Low, Miss Nellie Beth Shoaf, Carl Janing
and Rev. David Tudor, who sang "Abide With Me." "Nearer My God
to Thee" and "Blest Be the Tie That Binds." The floral
offerings were many and beautiful, among which was one with the inscription
"Father," presented by the sons and family. Interment was in
the Geneva cemetery.
