Obituary of Ellen C. Hafer

HAFER- At her home in Geneva at 8:30 a.m., Thursday, February 7, 1901, aged

70 years, 7 months and 23 days.

Ellen C. Morgart was born in Bedford county, Pennsylvania, May 15, 1821. She

married in that county to Robert Hafer, May 3, 1840. In 1857 they removed

from Pennsylvania to Henry county, Illinois and thence to this county in

1879. Mr. Hafer died in October 1891.

Grandma Hafer, as she was generally known, has been a resident of Geneva a

little over eighteen years. Since the death of her husband she and her

daughter Ella have made their home together. Mrs. Hafer has been a member of

the Methodist church since her eighteenth year.

Thirteen children were born to Mrs. Hafer, eleven of whom are living. All of

these were present when she breathed her last except Mrs. Margaret Smith of

Chicago. Those present were Mrs Lottie Eberstein of Exeter and Shannon,

Peter, Benjamin, James, Joseph, John, and Miss Ella Hafer, Mrs. Mary Ough and

Mrs. Caroline Ough of Geneva and vicinity.

The funeral will take place at 2 p.m. Sunday from the Methodist church and

will be conducted by Rev. F. A. Colony.

The sons and daughters of the deceased desire to express their appreciation

of the sympathy and assistance rendered by the many friends of their beloved

mother.
