Miss Anna Prussa, the 13 year old daughter of Mr and Mrs Anton Prussa of Green Valley was taken suddenly ill last Sunday and Monday afternoon gave up her young life and passed away to the great unknown. The funeral was held at St Joseph Church Wednesday, Father Lockner conducting the services, which were attended by a large number of sorrowing friends and neighbors who followed her remains to the Catholic Cemetery where they were laid at rest for all time.

MRS JOSEPH RAMOLD
Mrs Joseph Ramold passed away at her home northwest of town, Sunday morning. The family had been suffering from influenza and after caring for other members of the family until they were convalescent, she was stricken with the malady about a week ago. It rapidly developed into pneumonia which caused her death.
Mrs Ramold was formerly Miss Lizzie Wenner, daughter of Mr and Mrs Michael Wenner. She was united in marriage to Joseph Ramold about 7 years ago. To this union were born 2 children.
Funeral services were held at St Joseph's church, Tuesday morning conducted by Father Engles of Stuart, and interment was made in the Catholic Cemetery here.
Word sent to Mr Ramold's parents at Nebraska City was delayed and they did not arrive until the evening following the funeral.
Besides the husband and two small daughters, the deceased leaves her father and mother, 2 sisters, a brother and other relatives to mourn her loss and the sympathy of many friends is extended to them in their bereavement.

DEATH OF MRS JOSEPH RAMOLD
The community was shocked when they heard of the sudden death of Mrs Joseph Ramold who passed away at her home northwest of town Sunday morning, Feb 29,1920 at 9 o'clock am.
She had been suffering from influenza, which in itself might not have proven fatal, but pneumonia set in which caused her death, she had been confined to her bed just one week.
Elizabeth Wenner was born at Atkinson on Sept 19,1884 and died on Feb 29,1920, at the age of 35 years, 5 months and 10 days. On April 19,1920 she was united in marriage to Joseph Ramold to this union were born two children, Magdalena Marie aged 7 and Katherine Theresa aged 6.
Mrs Ramold leaves besides her husband and two small daughters, her parents Mr and Mrs Michael Wenner, 2 sisters and 1 brother, Mrs Lena Klein, John and Anna Wenner, and several other relatives, and scores of friends to mourn her untimely going.
Her winning ways and happy disposition made friends wherever she went. The mysteries of life we may not know, neither can we fathom the mysteries of providence, why a life so young, so full of promise should be taken, when but entering upon the years of fullest womanhood must remain a mystery until we see with perfected vision.
Funeral services were held at St Joseph Church Tuesday morning March 2 at 10 o'clock conducted by Father Loecher, assisted by Father Jungles of Stuart, a friend of the deceased.
A very large number of relatives and friends followed the remains to the last resting place.

The body of Jim T Reiser, 50, prominent Atkinson rancher, was found burned beyond recognition in the smoldering ruins of his new barn on the Reiser ranch 21 miles northeast of here Wednesday evening. A shotgun, in the barrel of which was an empty shell bearing the dent of the firing pin, was found near the body, giving evidence that the rancher had taken his own life after setting fire to the barn and other buildings on the place.
Relatives of the dead man do not believe that he committed suicide because they know of nothing that would cause him to do so. The shotgun always hung in the barn and they say the discovery of it near the body does not indicate to them that he took his own life.
The condition of the body prevented determining definitely whether or not the man's death was caused by a shotgun wound.
Mr Reiser was married just two weeks ago, on Wednesday, Aug 12 to Miss Helena Bausch, daughter of Mr and Mrs Stephen Bausch of Omaha, former neighbors of Mr Reiser.
Neither relatives nor friends can advance any reason why Mr Reiser might have taken his own life. He and his bride had been happily getting their home in order, arranging new furniture and having various things fixed up about the house.
A few hours before the tragedy they were in a jolly mood, and Mrs Reiser took the car and drove to the Henry Gottchalk place, a short distance, to arrange to take some relatives to town. She left shortly after noon and was not at home when the fires were discovered by M W Roberts, Atkinson, a carpenter who was working near the house.
Mr Roberts had been working at the Reiser place and was there for lunch that day. He says that Mr Reiser seemingly was in good spirit when along about 2:30 he came out where Mr Roberts was working and said, "Well I see you're getting along pretty good." Jim then went in the house, and that is the last time Mr Roberts saw him.
About thirty minutes later, the carpenter smelled feathers burning and saw smoke coming from the house. He called but received no answer so he rushed into the house to investigate. He said he found some pillows burning near the davenport in the parlor. They were new ones and were in the boxes in which they came. He then discovered fire in another room, where some clothing was burning in a closet.
Mr Reiser was nowhere about, so Roberts telephoned for help, getting the D F Scott place after much frantic ringing. Roberts says when he went out the door to carry water from the stock tank, he discovered the whole side of the barn was ablaze.
Neighbors soon arrived and succeeded in extinguishing the fire in the house, but the barn and a few other buildings were too far gone to get under control.
The strange disappearance of Mr Reiser deeply concerned relatives and neighbors who gathered at the place, and it first was thought that he might have gone out in the pasture. A thorough search of the place was made but he could not be found. Fears were then that he was caught in the barn and did not escape.
It was six o'clock that evening before the fire subsided enough so that the charred body of the rancher was discovered lying in the center of the ruins, in what was the driveway through the middle of the barn. The shotgun was found close to the body.
Identification was made by a watch, which relatives recognized as that worn by Mr Reiser, and an examination fo the teeth, which were checked with a dental chart on file in the office of Dr Harmon in Atkinson.
County coroner Julius D Cronin, who arrived at the Reiser place shortly after the body was discovered, said that no inquest would be held.
Mr Reiser was one of the prominent ranchers of this section. He is well known in Atkinson and all of north Holt County, where the Reiser families have lived for many years. His ranch consisted of 2000 acres, which he had owned for the past 18 years. For 8 years he lived on the place, a bachelor. He recently sold 50 head of steers and had a considerable number of cattle on the ranch. Apparently he was not in financial difficulty.
The barn which burned was built last summer. It was a structure 34 x 40. A granery and two sheds were also destroyed by fire. There was no livestock in the barn, but 2 wagons, about 100 bushels of oats and other feed were lost. The buildings were partly covered by insurance.
The home was saved without considerable damage and an old barn, the newly built garage and a few sheds were not burned.
The body of Mr Reiser was brought to Kilmurry undertaking parlors Wednesday night.

SERVICE FOR PROMINENT HOLT COUNTY RANCHER HELD AT ST JOSEPH CATHOLIC CHURCH
Funeral service for James T Reiser, rancher whose charred body was found Wednesday, lasat week, in the ruins of a burned barn on his ranch 21 miles northeast of Atkinson, were held Saturday, at St Joseph's Catholic Church, Atkinson. Burial was in St Joseph's Cemetery.
James T Reiser, son of Nicholas and Susan Reiser, was born March 8,1888 at Lamont, Iowa. His tragic death occurred at his ranch home 21 miles northeast of Atkinson on Aug 26,1931, where his body was found in the ruins of his barn, which was destroyed by fire. His age was 43 years, 4 months 26 days.
Mr Reiser came to Holt County with his parents in 1890 and the family settled on a ranch on the Niobrara River about 6 miles south of Butte. His mother passed away 10 years ago and his father 9 years ago. They are buried at Butte.
Ever since coming to Holt County, the Reiser family has been indentified with extensive ranching operations and cattle raising. Mr Reiser for many years was in partnership with his brohter Ben, who is living on the home place. 12 years ago he moved to the Old Ellis Ranch, which he had purchased, where he was living at the time of his death.
Two weeks before his death, Mr Reiser was married to Miss Helena Bausch of Omaha, daughter of Mr and Mrs Stephen Bausch, former neighbors. His death brought a sudden stop to the happy work these two were doing in preparing a comfortable home on their ranch.
Mr Reiser was one of a family of 11 children, all of whom survive him, except one sister, Mrs Susan Wahler, who died at Alton, Iowa in Jan 1929. The others are Mrs Mary Henrichof Centerville, SD; Mrs Anna Cupp of Defiance, Mrs Agnes Lueken of Butte; Peter, Frank, Adolph, Charles, J Ben of Butte and Joseph of Spencer. His wife also survives him and a niece, Miss Dollie Reiser, who for several years has lived on the home place south of Butte.

OBITUARY
Francis J Prussa, the subject of this sketch, was born at Nebraska City on 4th day of Aug 1870. In 1878 he moved with his parents to Red Cloud where they resided a number of years, from there they came to Atkinson in 1881. There he grew to manhood. In 1890 he took a homestead in Boyd Co and lived there for 9 years.
On June 14,1896, he was united in marriage to Anna Coufal. To this union 2 children were born, both dying in infancy.
In 1899 they returned to Atkinson, living on a farm and later engaged in business. In 1908 after a lingering illness his wife died.
On June 21,1910 he was married to Anna Tushla and the 2 following years were spent at Abie, this state, after which they returned to Atkisnon. In the spring of 1913 they made their residence at O'Neill, where he became ill with diabetes and after many months of suffering during which he showed great patience and fortitude, he succumbed on May 15,1914 at Atkinson, at the age of 43 years, 9 months 11 days.
He leaves to mourn his early death, a wife, father, mother, 3 sisters, 2 brothers, a host of friends.
The funeral was Sunday May 17 and the body laid to rest in the Catholic Cemetery.

John Morgan, Sr,one of the rapidly thinning ranks of pioneers, of this county, died on Sunday, March 1st at his home west of town.
He was buried in the Catholic Cemetery of this city, on the 4th, after solemn services at St Joseph's Church.
Prior to his death Mr Morgan had been in bad health for several years. His death was due to complications of chronic diseases and advanced years.
The deceased was born in Ireland in 1840 where he grew to manhood, married and resided for many years. In 1877 he came to Holt County with his family and has since lived here.
He leaves to mourn his loss a widow, 2 daughters and 5 sons, all of whom reside at home, except one son, who lives in Arizona. Deceased also leaves a sister who is a resident of Ireland.

Caroline Kodytek was born in Zembark, Bohemia on Oct 2,1835 and died at her home near Atkinson, Nebr on March 28,1912.
She was married to Frank Mlinar onSept 15th, 1854.
To this union were born fifteen children, the four oldest having passed to the great beyond in infancy. Beside a loving husband, 11 children, four sons and seven daughters, are left to mourn the loss of a loving Christian wife and mother, they are Mrs Anna Wilson of Stickney, SD; Mrs Mary Reiser of Butte, Nebr; Mrs Cora Tasler, Mrs Josie Pacha, Mrs Tillie Radcliff, Mrs Barbara Jonas, Mrs Paulina Davis, Fred, Frank, Joseph and John, Mlinar, all of Atkinson, also forty one grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
Deceased came to America about forty six years ago and first located in Ringgold County, Iowa, later removing from there to Holt County, Nebraska.
She was a great sufferer for four years but was of a sunny disposition and to know her better, was to love her more. Five weeks ago she was taken to her bed. Her children were summoned and remained with her until the end. Every thing that willing hands and loving hearts and medical aid could do was done but she passed peacefully away without a murmur, always more thoughtful of her loved ones around her than of herself.
She left them with a blessed assurance that she was ready and willing to go. The funeral services were held at St Joseph's Catholic Church Monday, April 1st, Rev Father Loecker, officiating.
A Precious one from us is gone,
A voice we loved is stilled,
A place is vacant in our hearts
Which never can be filled.

JOSEPH MATOUSEK
Joseph Matousek was born Oct 8,1862 in Caslav, Bohemia. He died at his home near Atkinson Sept 19,1922, at the age of 59 years, 11 months 11 days, following a serious diabetic illness lasting 5 weeks.
Mr Matousek's parents died while he was very young and he was then thrown upon his own resources. At the age of 14 years he came to the US with his future father-in-law, Mr John Rak, and located near Lincoln, where he was employed on a farm.
Later he moved to Saunders county and in 1887 came to Butler County where he farmed for a few years. Following this he engaged in the lumber business at Brainard.
On the 1st of January 1883, Mr Matousek was united in marriage with Miss Anna Rak and they became the parents of 5 sons; Edward, Joseph, Albin, Emil and James. The latter died in infancy.
In Political life he was a staunch republican and was especially honored by receiving appointments in public office by Governors Mickey and Shallenberger.
Socially he was identified with the MWAAOUW and the Western Bohemian Fraternal Association.
Leaving Butler county in 1907 Mr county, Nebraska, and engaged in farming until his death. (That's the way this paragraph was in the paper)

OBITUARY - KRAMER
Anton Kramer, was born in Bohemia, June 8,1839 and died June 13,1921,a ged 82 years 5 days. He had lived in Holt County 40 years.
He was wedded in his native land in the year 1878 and in that year emigrated to America.
3 children were born to this union, 1 son and 2 daughters, Anton Kramer and Ms C F Ahrndt of Scribner and Mrs F Ziska of Atkinson.
After coming to this country they first lived in Platte County, Nebr, In 1881 they moved to Holt County and settled on a homestead 5 miles east of Atkinson.
His wife preceded him in death July 4,1913. they were members of St Joseph Parish, Atkinson and from that church the pastor, Father Loecher, conducted the services of each, over an interval of 8 years, and preached the funeral sermons.
Many old friends, relatives and neighbors, attended the funeal of this old settler who was esteemed by all who knew him.

OBITUARY
Frank Kozmek, aged 55 years, died at his home southwest of Atkinson,last Thursday evening, Dec 28,1899, after a short illness. The funeral took place Saturday.
He was born in Bohemia in 1845 and came to America in 1861 and settled at Toledo, Ohio. From there he removed to Wisconsin where he was married in 1872 to Miss Josefa Slamova. From there they removed to Butler County, Nebr, from which place they removed to Holt County in 1883, where they have resided continuously up to the time of his death.
He leaves a wife and 7 children to mourn the death of a kind husband and a loving father. He was a good neighbor and an exemplary citizen and leaves hosts of friends who mourn his death. The funeral services were held at the house after which the body was laid to rest in the cemetery here.

DEATH OF MRS JOSEPHINE KOZISEK
Mrs Josephine Kozisek who made her home with her son Albert, on the farm near town, died very suddenly Wednesday morning. She was looking over the mail and reading a newspaper when her voice ceased and she expired. She had not been in her usual health, however, throughout the winter.
Mrs Kozisek is the mother of Frank, Venzel, Albert and Marie and Mrs John Skrdla of near Atkinson. Mrs Josephine Bachmann, a daughter, living at Waitsburg, Washington, was unable to be here for the funeral which was held this morning at 9 o'clock at St Joseph's Church with burial in the Catholic Cemetery.

DEATH OF MRS KAFKA
The community learned with sadness of the death of Mrs Christina Kafka which occurred at about 9 o'clock Monday evening, Feb 16,1920 at her home in Atkinson. She had been ailing throughout the winter, but her condition was not considered serious until shortly before her death which came as a shock to her family and friends.
Mrs Kafka was born Aug 20,1865 in Bohemia where she grew to womanhood, coming from Korquhewe, Bohemia to Atkinson in 1889 where she has since resided. Though quiet and unassuming she was a woman of superior qualities, a faithful member of her church, possessing the Christian virtues to a marked degree.
She was the mother of two children, Joe, who preceded her in death less than a year ago and for whom she had grieved deeply, and Hedda, who survives her mother.
In their earlier years, when times were less prosperous, than now, she worked untiringly to give her children the comforts of life and to provide for their education later. This aim she successfully accomplished a fact her friends thought worthy of congratulation.
Her funeral was held Wednesday at 10:30 am at St Joseph Church, the service being conducted by Rev H Loecher.
The public school was dismissed, for the hour and the teaching force, of which Miss Kafka is a member attended the funeral. Many of the pupils also, and a large concourse of other friends were in attendance.
Interment was made in the Catholic Cemetery.
Besides her daughter, Mrs Kafka leaves her aged mother, Mrs Josephine Verzal, her brother, Joseph Vrzal and family and sister Mrs John Bouska and family to mourn the loss of a devoted mother, daughter and sister. The sympanthy of many friends is extended to them in their bereavement.

LEWIS JONAS SUICIDES
Lewis Jonas, the 19 year old son of George Jonas of Green Valley committed suicide last Thursday morning.
He was working on the J F Hale ranch northeast of town and last Wednesday evening, after taking a bath with several others in a nearby pond, they all returned to the house. Shortly after this he was missed; an organized search was made by scouring the nearby country and dragging the pond and deep hole in the Eagle Creek, but no trace of him could be found until Monday when he was discovered by Mesdames Tesch and Alfs, suspended by a bailing wire attached to a rafter in the coal shed at the Tesch school house which is about 4 miles from the Hale ranch. The sheriff and coroner were notified and found he had committed the act while mentally deranged.
His remains were brought to Atkinson Tuesday, and laid at rest in the Catholic Cemetery.

Patrick Horton passed quietly out of this life at his home in the west part of Atkinson Monday May 29, 1922 at 2:20 pm.
He was born in Beeauagh, County Cavin, Ireland, and immigrated to this country in 1859 coming to New York. In 1860 he came to Janesville, Wis. In 1868 he was united in marriage to Mary McKeown, to this union 5 children were born, 4 of whom are now living. His wife died in 1880. In 1884 he was united in marriage to Mary AnnIrwin. To this union 6 children were born, 5 of whom are now living. Josephine having preceded him in death 5 years ago.
In 1887 he moved to a farm near Bladen, Nebraska, where he resided for a number of years. In 1911 he moved to Atkinson where he resided until his death. He was a kind and loving husband and father, a good citizen and beloved by all who knew him.
The surviving children were all at his bedside with the exception of two. Those left to mourn his loss are his wife, 3 sons, 6 daughters, William, Charles, Francis, Mary, Mrs Janie Lorentz all of Bladen, Mrs Martha Roulier of Detroit, Mich and Margaret, Mrs Vera Mlinar and Cecelia all of Atkinson.
The funeral services were held in St Joseph's Church Thursday morning at 9:30 and the remains laid to rest in St Joseph's Cemetery.

Johanna, wife of John Heuton,aged 37 years, 9 months, and 27 days, of inflammatory rheumatism.
Deceased was born in New York State, and removed to Glidden, Iowa at an early age. And was married to John Heuton in 1870, and three years ago came to Holt County. A husband, a daughter, and two sons, aged 9 and 11 survive her to mourn the untimely loss of a lovin g mother and dutiful wife. Her father and mother, Mr and Mrs H Prussa, two brothers, Charles and Frank, her sister, Mrs O Heuton and brother Edward of Glidden, Iowa were all present at her departure from this earth. Her brothers, Joseph and Henry being the only ones absent.
During her comparatively brief residence in this vicinity, her neighborly offices and genial nature won the respect of all with whom she became acquainted. The funeral rites were conducted under the auspices of the German Lutheran Church, of which she was a faithful communicant. A large concourse followed the remains to the cemetery near this village when the last sad rites of interment weresolemnly observed. The Graphic in common with this entire community sincerely sympathize with the bereaved family and other relatives of the deceased in this hour of their deep affliction.

Mrs Elizabeth Heeb died very suddenly at her home 12 miles northeast of Atkinson, on last Saturday, Aug 20th. Death was caused by the bursting of a blood vessel.
Elizabeth Koenig was born in Bangs, Austria, Dec 8,1834, died at her home north of Atkinson, Aug 20,1910, aged 76 years, 8 months and 12 days.
She was married to Mr Heeb in New York in 1860 moving to Penn where they lived 17 years, coming to Holt Co in 1878. Locating northeast of Atkinson where she has since made her home.
Deceased leaves 7 sons to mourn the loss of a loving mother, John, Frank, David, Joe, Allios, Harry and Ed.
Funeral services were held Monday at St Joseph's Church and interment in the Catholic Cemetery.

The remains of Mr John Hanrahan, who died on the 5th, were interred in the Catholic Cemetery on Wednesday of last week, no services being held owing to the severe storm. The Graphic was in error in stating last week that the deceased left a widow, as Mrs Hanrahan died about 15 years ago. His son, Thomas, will continue the farming business in which the young man has the best wishes of many friends.

OBITUARY - DVORAK
Mrs Anna Dvorak was a native of Bohemia,where she was born in 1828. Coming to America in early life she became one of the earliest of the Bohemian settlers in this section of the country. Her husband had preceded her in death by severalyears, and she came to her end on Oct 19,1911 at the age of 83 eyars.
The funeral was held from St Joseph's Church on Friday last, conducted by the Pastor, Rev H Loecker, and she was laid to rest in the Cathoic Cemetery.
In her going Holt county loses one of its oldest settlers.
