SERVICES HELD FOR MRS SARAH WABS

     Funeral services for Mrs Sarah Wabs, who resided in the Atkinson Community for 85 years and died at her home of a heart attack December 13, were held at St Joseph Catholic Church on December 16.

     Burial was in St Joseph's Cemetery

     Sarah Libe Wabs, daughter of Manillious and Mary Little Libe, was born at Earlville, Iowa on August 4,1881. At the age of three she came with her family to this area where they settled on a ranch near the Niobrara River. She married henry Wabs in Spencer on April 19,1900 and moved to a ranch 25 miles north east of Atkinson. Here their nine children were born. Her husband died in1925.

     Mrs Wabs and her family continued living on the place until she moved to Atkinson in 1952. This pioneer mother, who learned to cope with all early day trials, was a member of St Joseph Church and Altar Society, whose members were present in a bocy at the services.

     Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by an infant son, and a daughter, Mrs Alice Edger, who died five years ago.

     Survivors include five daughters, Mrs Carrie Keating, Mrs Mary Mulvihill, Fillmore, California; Mrs M R (Josephine) Pearce, Fillmore, California; Mrs Matt (Noreen) Shipman, Los Angeles, California; Mrs LeRoy (Ellen ) Hermann, Livermore, California; two sons, Leo Wabs, Livermore, California; and Frances Wabs of Norfolk.

     Other survivors are three sisters, Mrs K M (Alice ) Reed, Spencer; Mrs Esther Cuttler, Spokane, Washington; Mrs Amy Maxwell, Norfolk; a brother, Joseph Libe,of Fresno, California; 21 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren.

     All of Mrs Wabs children, four grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, and two sisters, Mrs A M Reed,Spencer and Mrs Amy Maxwell, Norfolk were present for the services.

Walnofer, Joyce Ann Hieter

JOYCE A WALNOFER

     Funeral services for Joyce Ann Walnofer, age 62, of Stuart, were held Oct 18,2004 at St Joseph's Catholic Church. Burial was in St Joseph's Cemetery, Atkinson.

     Joyce was born Nov 22,1941 at Atkinson to Dorsey F andJennie VanFleet Hieter. She was their only child. They lived in Dustin at the time of her birth. During her childhood years she lived and attended school in Atkinson, Fremont, Bristow, and Hooper. She attended school through 11th grade.

     She was united in marriage to Joseph John Walnofer on Nov 14,1959 at Atkinson. They resided on a ranch north of Atkinson and raised 6 children.

     Joyce thoroughly enjoyed dancing, reading, singing, playing the piano and accordion. She loved to play cards and board games. She often showed her love of animkals by taking care of them on the ranch or with her daughter, Laure, helping with the puppies.

     She was quite the artist. She drew many pictures of family and friends. She had a way of really capturing people in her drawings. Joyce worked at the Triple F Restaurant for more than 15 years. She will be remembered for her great sense of humor, and her loving and kind way.

     She passed away Oct 13,2004 in Atkinson.

     Joyce is survived by 3 daughters, Jerri Reinhart and Dale Paxton, Carla Stanley and Laura Braun, all of Atkinson, and 3 sons, Steve and wife Angela of Joliet, Mont, Joe E and wife Laura of Colorado Springs, Colorado and Mark of Billings, Mont.

     Grandchildren, Brian, Derrick, Alysha Reinhart, Tyler, Jessica, Jason, Julie and John Stanley, Adrian, Reeva, Amanda, Makala Braun, Andy, Jennifer, Lloyd and Holly Walnofer, Heather and Christy Walnofer, Miekel Kreg and Joey Walnofer.

     Parents of the grandchildren, Rick Reinhart, Mark Stanley, Daryl Braun and Barbara Walnofer, 1 great grandson, Caden Reinhart, and 1 granddaugther Walnofer on the way.

     She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her in-laws, Peter and Rosa Walnofer.

Weber, Frank J

RITES HELD FOR FRANK WEBER, 77

     Funeral rites for Frank J Weber, retired Atkinson businessman, who died Aug 5 in Omaha, were held Saturday morning, Aug 8 at St Joseph's Catholic Church, the Rev Edward Gill officiated at the service. Burial was in St Joseph's Cemetery with military rites by Farley Tushla Legion Post 86.

     Pallbearers were nephews, Robert Gregor of Gregory, SD, Lyle Lower of Columbus, Jack Taggert of Chambers, Gerald Gonderinger, Ken Jones, Quintin Ramold of Atkinson.

     Frank James Weber, son of Frank and Mary Wostrichil Weber was born at Atkinson July 11,1893. He married Miss Wilma Mumm here on May 14,1936 and spent a lifetime in Atkinson except for the time he served in the U S Army in WWI. 2 children, a son, Frank James Weber of Omaha and a daughter, Mrs Martin (Marilyn) Miksch, of Stuart, was born to this union.

     Mr Weber worked for Campbell Lumber Yard for many years and later operated a bar until his retirement in 1961. he was a member of the American Legion for more than 50 years.

     He was preceded in death by his parents.

     Survivors include his wife, Wilma, his son and daughter, 4 grandsons, Marty Jo, Marvin James, Randy Lee and Bryan Edward Miksch, a brother, Louis Weber of Omaha, 2 sisters, Mrs Julia Greger of Schuyler and Mrs Pauline Shaver of Pueblo, Colorado; 3 half sisters, Mrs Rose Coufal of Pueblo, Colorado, Mrs Peter (Anna) Ramold and Mrs Bessie Gonderinger of Atkinson and many other relatives.

     Mr N Weber living about 11 miles southeast of Atkinson, died last Sunday morning after a prolonged siege of cancer. He was buried Tuesday morning with the usual service at the Catholic Church , Father Muenich officiating. Quite a procession followed the remains to his last resting place. Obit next week. DEATH TAKES MRS ANNA WEICHMAN, 81

     Mrs Anna Weichman, 81, who lived in the Atkinson Stuart community for 75 years, died Saturday morning, May 7 at the home of her daughter, Mrs A P Wewel, in Atkinson. She had been in failing health for the past two years.

     She was the widow of the late Frank Weichman and they lived on a farm west of here before retiring and moving to Atkinson many years ago. Mr Weichman died in 1954.

     The funeral service was held Monday morning at St Joseph's Catholic Church

     Burial was in St Joseph's Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers were six of her grandsons. They were; Louis Wewel, Raymond Wewel, Marvin Scholz, Eugene Hamik, Milton Weichman and Don Weichman.

     Anna Steinhauser was the daughter of Frank and Anna Jannor Steinhauser. She was born July 17,1878 in Dieberschlag, Germany. In 1885, she came to the US and settled in this community, where she lived the remained of her life.

     She was married to Frank Weichman on January 30,1894 at St Joseph's Catholic Church in Atkinson. Six sons and five daughters were born to them.

     She was preceded in death by her husband on October 21,1954, and by one son, Karl, on December 18,1954.

     Surviving are five sons and five daughters, all of whom reside in the Atkinson and Stuart community. They are: Anton, Max, John, Leo and Frank Weichman; Mrs Henry (Mary) Hamik, Mrs Frank (Matilda) Wewel,Mrs A P (Julia) Wewel, Mrs Dora Wallinger and Mrs Florian (Thresa) Scholz.

     She is also survived by 44 grandchildren and 59 great grandchildren, and one sister, Mrs John (Mary) Wedige of Norfolk.

Weichman, Anton J

RITES HELD FOR TONY WEICHMAN

     Funeral services were held Sat morning at St Joseph's Catholic Church for Anton J Weichman, 80, who died Wed, April 5 at West Holt Memorial Hospital. Burial was in St Joseph Cem.

     Weichman was a lifelong resident of Atkinson and was a retired county bridge foreman. Earlier in his life he farmed for several years and later was employed at the Atkinson Livestock Market. He also managed a hay bailing crew and at one of the Hay Days Celebration here his crew was named world champion.

     He worked for Atkinson Sand and Gravel until it was necessary for him to retire about a year ago because of failing health.

     He was born 8 miles west of Atkinson on May 21,1897, the son of Frank and Anna Steinhauser Weichman.

     His wife is the former Cora Davis and they were married at St Joseph's Church on June 20,1923.

     Besides his wife, he is survived by sons, Charles of Casper, Wyo; John of Ft Worth, Tex; Bernard of Houston, Tex; and Cathleen Burbank of Rushville; 19 grandchildren- and 6 great grandchildren; brothers, John and Frank of Stuart, Leo of Atkinson; sisters, Mrs Harry (Mary) Hamik of Stuart and Mrs Dora Wallinger of Atkinson.

     He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Carl and Max, sisters, Mrs Frank (Matilda) Wewel, Mrs Ollie (Julie) Wewel, Mrs Florian (Theresa) Scholz and an infant daughter, Mary.

Weichman, Cora Olive Davis

CORA OLIVE WEICHMAN

     Funeral services for Cora Olive Weichman were held Sat, May 2 at the St Joseph's Catholic Church. Burial was at the St Joseph Cem. Honorary pallbearers were grandsons, Mark Weichman, Patrick Burback, Joel Burback, Kip Rorabaugh, and Donald Brunz.

     Cora died April 29 at her home. She was born March 7,1899 in Atkinson to Pauline Mlinar and Charles H Davis.

     On June 20,1923 she married Anton Weichman in Atkinson.

     Survivors include three sons; Charles Weichman of Atkinson, John "Bud" Weichman of Fort Worth, Texas, and Bernard Weichman of Houston, Texas; one daughter, Cathleen Burback of Rushville; 19 grandchildren; and 38 great grandchildren; one sister, Florence Ackerman of Casper, Wyo; aunt, Ethel Morrison of Ainsworth; and nephews and nieces.

     Cora was preceded in death by her parents, husband (4/5/78), one infant daughter, and one sister, Clare Walsh.

DEATH TAKES 84 YEAR OLD PIONEER

     Frank Weichman, 84 year old pioneer resident of this community, died Thursday morning, Oct 21, at Atkinson Memorial Hospital. Mr Weichman had been ill for two weeks and entered the hospital on Thursday,Oct 14.

     Funeral rites will be conducted at St Joseph Catholic Church in Atkinson Saturday morning, and burial will be in St Joseph Cemetery.

     Six of Mr Weichman's grandsons will serve as pallbearers. They are; Raymond Wewel, Gene Hamik, Frederick Wewel, Charles Weichman, Don Wewel and Don Bernt.

     The late Mr Weichman lived on a farm eight miles northwest of Atkinson for almost a half century. He was a resident of this community for 65 years and for the past 12 years made his home in Atkinson.

     A son of Matthew and Anna Bonne Weichman, he was born August 1,1870 in Tieberschlag, Czechoslovakia. His boyhood was spent in the Old Country, and he came to the US when he was 19 years old. For a few years, he lived with his brother- in-law, the late Conrad Kramer,Sr, and his siter, Mrs Kramer at their farm seven miles northwest of here.

     In the spring of 1883, Mr Weichman moved to a farm 7 miles west and a mile north of Atkinson, which was his home until he retired and moved to Atkinson in 1942.

     On January 30,1894, Mr Weichman and Miss Anna Steinhauser of Stuart were married by Father J G Jungles at St Boniface Catholic Church in Stuart. They became the parents of 11 children, all of whom are living in the Atkinson and Stuart communities.

     Survivors include his wife, Anna; five daughters, Mrs Henry (Mary) Hamik, Mrs Frank (Matilda) Wewel, Mrs A P (Julia) Wewel, Mrs Dora Wallinger and Mrs Florian (Theresa) Scholz; six sons; Anton, Max, John, Carl, Leo and Frank, Jr; 42 grandchildren and 25 great grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs Theresa Kramer and Mrs Katherine Verzal, and many neices and nephews.

SERVICES HELD FOR ANNA WELLER, 97

     Funeral services were held Tuesday Oct 15 at St Joseph's Catholic Church for Anna Weller, who died Saturday in Atkinson. She was 97 years old.

     Burial was in St Joseph's Cemetery.

     She was born in Atkinson on Sept 9,1882, the daughter of Anna Finnigan and Patrick Barrett. She and Francis J Weller were married in 1903.

     She is survived by 1 son, Francis of Atkinson; 3 grandsons, 4 granddaughtes, 23 great grandchildren, 1 sister, Martha Hamler of Pueblo, Colorado.

     Preceding her in death were her parents, husband, 1 grandson, Mark, 2 brothers, 3 sisters.

Weller, Gerald James

GERALD WELLER, VETERAN OF THREE YEARS IN SOUTHWEST PACIFIC, DIES IN HIS SLEEP

     Gerald James Weller, 31, veteran of more than three years of battle campaigns in the jungles of the Southwest Pacific theatre during WWII, died in his sleep about midnight, Tuesday at the home of his mother, Mrs Lillian Weller, in Atkinson.

     Mr Weller, although a husky looking young man, had never fully regained his health after suffering malaria and jungle rot, contracted during his war service. He had not complained of illness, however, and his death was sudden and wholly unexpected.

     He worked Saturday with the crew that is erecting the Chas Ballon building here in Atkinson, but did not work Monday and Tuesday, except for little chores around the Weller home. He went for a swim in the river Tuesday, and that evening visited with friends downtown until about an hour and a half before he died. He was not married.

     Funeral services will be held Saturday morning at St Joseph's Catholic Church,. Military rites will be in charge of Farley Tushla Post American Legion of Atkinson. Burial will be in the Weller family lot in St Joseph's Cemetery. Atkinson business places will be closed between 9 and 10:30 o'clock.

     Gerry was the oldest of four Weller brothers who served in WWII and were under fire in battle of three different theaters of war. He and Eugene were in the Southwest Pacific, both serving in the New Guinea and Phillippine campaigns. Joe hit the beaches of France on D Day, went on into Germany, earned a bronze star medal for meritorious service. Charles landed in North Africa, also served in Italy, France and Germany. Two older brothers, Leo and Donald, were not in the service.

     Gerald served as a corporal in the 440th Signal Heavy Construction Battalion. He was inducted July 12, 1941, at Fort Crook, served 11 months and 17 days in Continental service, three years, three months and five days in foreign service, and was discharged Oct 3,1945 at Ft Leavenworth.

     Battles and campaigns in which he served included Papau, New Gunieau, Southern Phillippines, and the Ryukyus. His decorations were the Phillippines Liberation Ribbon with one bronze star, Good Conduct Medal, American Defense Service Ribbon.

     Gerald James Weller, son of Lillian Rose and the late William James Weller, was born in Atkinson, June 7,1917. His father, a plasterer and brick mason who for several years was in partnership here with the late Fay Hise,preceded him in death in 1928.

     He is survived by his mother, four brothers, Donald Francis of Portland, Oregon; Leo W of Atkinson; Harold Joseph, Eugene Edward and Charles Willard , all of Portland; one sister, Mrs Frank Ryschow of Valentine.

     The four brothers from Portland, accompanied by Mrs Donald Weller, are driving to Atkinson to attend the funeral and are expected to arrive some time this morning.

WILLIAM JAMES WELLER

     William J Weller, 44, passed away at his home in Atkinson at 11:35 am Tuesday, the 14th inst. Following a few days illness from pneumonia.

     William James Weller, son of Mr and Mrs Frank Weller, of this city, was born at Kerkoven, Minn March the 3rd, 1884. The family moved to Holt Co where they have since resided in 1886, when the deceased was 2 years old.

     In 1914 he was married to Miss Lily Pierce of Amelia, Nebr. and who, together with six young sons survive him; also his parents, one sister, Mrs Timothy O'Connell and five brothers- Francis and Wallace, twin brother of Atkinson Fred E of Douglas, Wyo; and George and Myron at present in Texas.

     Funeral services are held at St Joseph's Catholic Church at 9 o'clock today and interment in the parish cemetery.

DEATH TAKES PIONEER HOLT COUNTY WOMAN
Mrs Michael Wenner, 76, lived Fifty Years on Farm Southeast of Atkinson

     Mrs Michel Wenner, 76, who for fifty years lived on a farm seven miles southeast of Atkinson, passed away last Sunday following a long illness. She and her husband came to America from Luxemburg in 1880 and came to Holt County in 1884. Mr Wenner died nine years ago.

     To the memory of Katherine Schmit, one of the last of the early pioneers of Holt County who was born in Byren, Luxemburg, June 19,1858, and departed this life at her home south of Atkinson March 11,1934, at the age of 75 years, eight months, and one day.

     On January 25,1880, at the age of 22, she was united in marriage to Michael Wenner in Byren, Luxemburg. In February of the same year she and her husband emigrated to America and settled at Steinauer, Nebraska, where they made their home for four years. They came to Holt County in 1884 and homesteaded on a farm seven miles southeast of Atkinson where they since resided.

     To this union were born six children. Two of them died in infancy and two others, Mrs Elizabeth Ramold and Mrs Anna Bogue, died in 1920 and 1930 respectively. Mr Wenner passed away nine and a half years ago.

     She leaves to mourn her death, two children, Mrs Lena Klein and John Wenner, both of Atkinson; four grandchildren, the Misses Lena and Katherine Ramold and Michael and John Wenner Jr; one brother, Theodore Schmit, Summerfield, Kansas.

     Some time ago she was stricken with a fatal illness and was afterwards denied the use of her limbs, however, with patience and fortitude she carried on bravely until even at the moment of death her hands were extended to her children and friends to give one last assurance of her affection and devotion. She lived a Christian mother and died a Christian mother.

     Those who knew her best recall all the virtues, gentleness and endearments that were lavished unheeded in their friendly intimacy. Her constant faith in the mercy of the Lord helped to smooth the path of this life and her friends were numbered by her acquaintances.

     The funeral was held Tuesday, March 13, from St Joseph's Catholic Church, the remains were laid to rest in St Joseph's Cemetery.

FUNERAL HELD SATURDAY FOR ALOUIS WEWEL, ATKINSON

     Funeral services were held Saturday morning May 13,1968 at St Joseph's Catholic Church, Atkinson. Burial in St Joseph's Cemetery.

     Alouis Pius Wewel was the sonof Fritz and Anastasia Kramer Wewel and was born at Newport April 21,1901 and passed away in Atkinson on Thursday afternoon, May 16,1968. He had been in poor health for some time.

     On June 21,1922 he married Julie Weichman at Atkinson and to this union 6 children were born.

     He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, 1 brother, 1 sister.

     He leaves to mourn his passing 2 sons, Fred of Knoxville, Illinois, Louis of Fremont, 4 daughters, Mrs John (Regena) Troshynski of Omaha, Mrs Mike (Dorothy) Cody of Columbus, Mrs Harold (Josephine) Groff of Omaha, Mrs John (Patricia) Barnes of Omaha, 30 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren, 2 brothes, Frank of Stuart, Joe of Newport, 4 sisters,Mrs John (Louise) Hamil, Mrs John (Mary) Miksch of Stuart, Emma of Illinois and Mrs Everett (Daisy) Sally of Warsaw, Mo.

     Pallbearers were all nephews, Max Hamik, Charles and Ray Hamik of Atkinson, Ray Wewel of Newport, Martin Miksch and Robert Miksch, both of Stuart.

     Geo White, a former resident of this place, died at his home in Keya Paha County, and was bro't here for burial last Tuesday. Interment was made Wednesday in the Catholic Cemetery.

Winkler, Henry

FUNERAL IS HELD FOR PIONEER HOMSTEADER

     Funeral services were held last Saturday morning at St Joseph's Catholic Church in this city for Henry Winkler Sr, age 80 years, 46 years ago a homesteader in Holt County 13 miles northeast of Atkinson, who died at his home Thursday Dec 20, after a short illness from pneumonia. The service was conducted by the pastor, Rev John Pieper, and burial was made in St Joseph's Cemetery.

     Mr Winkler was born on the 22nd of Oct 1848 in Bienstadt, Germany. He was a veteran of the Franco-Prussian War in 1870-71. In Nov 1879 he came to America and settled on a farm near David City, Nebr. At David City on the 15th of Aug,1880 he was united in marriage with Agnes Steskal.

     In 1882 Mr Winkler and his family came to Holt County where they homesteaded on a place 2 miles north and 11 miles east of Atkinson. This farm is now occupied by his son, Henry Winkler, Jr. Mr and Mrs Winkler moved to a place on the outskirts east of town in 1909 and have since made their home there. In 1910 he made a visit to his old home in Germany and was accompanied back to America by his niece, Susan Winkler.

     Mr Winkler is survived by his wife, who is 67 years of age, and 4 daughers and 3 sons, Mrs Fred Meyers of Anaheim, Cal; Mrs Frank Henderson, Mrs A D Brown and Mrs L A Daniels of Atkinson; John Winkler of Denver, Colorado; Henry and Joe Winkler of Atkinson. There are also 26 grandchildren. 2 daughters preceded him in death, Josephine in infancy and Mrs Anna Gift at the age of 26 in Omaha 20 years ago.

EMMET NATIVE JOE WINKLER IS DEAD

     Funeral services for Joseph F Winkler, who died in Atkinson, Jan 9, were held at St Joseph Catholic Church on Monday, The Rev Edward Gill officiated.

     Burial was in St Joseph's Cemetery.

     Pallbearers were Ray Verzal, Linus Judge, Leo Kramer, Tom Troshonski, Bernard Pongratz, Robert Keating.

     Joseph F Winkler, son of Joe and Barbara Spaatz Winkler, was born Setp 8,1886 at Emmet. He was united in marriage to Lena Weber at St Boniface Catholic Church in Stuart on Feb 9,1945 and to this union 6 sons and 2 daughters were born. Mr and Mrs Winkler spent all of their married life on a farm north of Emmet until they retired to town about 6 years ago. Mrs Winkler died on Feb 9,1969 and Mr Winkler spent the last year of his life in the Good Samaritan Center at Atkinson.

     He was preceded in death by his parents, wife and 3 brothers, Martin, Henry, Casper. Surviving are sons, Ed of Emmet, Charley of Atkinson, Ray of North Platte, Leonard of California, Bob of Omaha, Harold of Denver, Colorado, daughters, Mrs Robert (Leona) Hanus of Omaha, and Mrs Leo (Florence) Weichman of Atkinson, 23 grandchildren also survive.

LESTER ZARNFALLER

     Funeral services for Lester Charles Zarnfaller, were held Saturday, Sept 27 at St Joseph's Catholic Church, Atkinson, Father Wayne Schlauman officiated with military rites by American Legion Post 86. Burial was in St Joseph's Cemetery.

     Pallbearers were Joe Kuykendall, Joe S Kuykendall, Norman Ulrich, Wayne Pacha, Robert Lauby, Kenny Steinhauser.

     Lester Zarnfaller was born at Atkinson July 12,1910 to Charles and Anna Bauman Zarnfaller. He died Sept 24,1997 in Atkinson.

     He completed the 8th grade and was a WWII veteran serving from Oct 23,1942 to Sept 14,1945 in the U S Army. His rank was Pvt.

     Lester was a brick and block mason and was a member of the Knights of Columbus.

     He was preceded in death by his parents and 1 sister, Eileen Lauby.

     Lester is survived by nieces, Dolories McCann of Bend, Oreg; Mary Mabry of Hubert, NC; Joyce Kuykendall of Omaha, Donna Lauby of Norwalk, Conn, nephew Robert Lauby of Falls Church, Va; aunt, Mabelle Bauman of Atkinson and by many cousins.

DEATH OF JOHN ZEMAN

     John Zeman, who resided six miles west of Atkinson, died Friday, Dec 6th in St Joseph's hospital, Omaha, where he had been taken for treatment.

     About ten weeks ago Mr Zeman had his hip dislocated in a runaway which occurred while driving a four horse team to a potato digger. Not recovering as he should he was taken by his wife to the hospital where he seemed in a fair way to recover from the injury, but succumbed to pneumonia.

     He was 33 years old and leaves a wife and two small children. They and a sister, Miss Antoinette Zeman, were with him during his last illness.

     The remains were brought here Saturday and the funeral held Sunday from St Joseph's Church.

AGNES ZISKA STRICKEN BY FATAL ATTACK

     Agnes M Ziska, 76, wife of Fred Ziska, died suddenly Sunday evening, Sept 8 after suffering a heart attack at her home in Atkinson.

     Mrs Ziska, a native Nebraska, was a resident of this community all but the first 6 months of her life.

     Funeral rites were conducted Wednesday morning at St Joseph's Catholic Church. Burial was in St Joseph's Cemetery.

     Agnes M Kramer, daughter of Anton and Mary Vallenta Kramer, was born Dec 24,1880 at Platte Center.

     In 1881, when she was 6 months old, the family moved to a farm southwest of Atkinson. She grew to womanhood in this community and on Nov 26,1901 was married to Fred Ziska at St Joseph's Catholic Church, Atkinson. 3 sons and 6 daughters were born to them.

     Mr and Mrs Fred Ziska lived on a farm 6 miles west of Atkinson until they retired in 1952, moved to Atkinson. She was a prominent and well known member of St Joseph's Christian Mothers Society.

     Mrs Ziska is survived by her husband, Fred; 3 sons, Joseph of Emmet, George of Boys Town, Lawrence of Stuart; 5 daughters, Mrs Frank (Theresa) Krysl of Stuart, Mrs Joseph (Clara) Hamik of Atkinson, Mrs Alois H (Gertrude) Kaup of Stuart, Mrs George (Margaret) Kneivel of West Point, Mrs Leo (Leona) Meyers of Santa Monica, Cal; 34 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, 1 brother, Anton in Florida.

     She was preceded in death by daughter, Irene on April 21,1930.

DORIS M ZISKA

     Doris Mary Ziska, age 75 of Hebron, formerly of Atkinson, passed away, Monday, March 15,2006 at Thayer County Health Services in Hebron.

     Funeral services were held on Saturday, March 18, 2006 at St Joseph's Catholic Church in Atkinson

     Interment was in St Joseph's Catholic Cemetery in Atkinson.

     Doris was born May 13,1930 to James E and Theresa D Ahle Ziska at Atkinson. She attended elementary school at District 77 and graduated from St Joseph's High School in 1947. She attened Wayne State College and taught school in rural Atkinson.

     After several years of employment in Atkinson she moved to Omaha and worked at St Joseph's Hospital in Omaha. She then lived in Lincoln for several years before moving to Hebron where she resided at Blue Valley Lutheran Care Home until the time of her death.

     Her hobbies included playing the piano and she enjoyed entertaining the residents at the Care Home.

     Doris is survived by brothers, Ed Ziska and wife Charlene of Grand Island; and John Ziska of Atkinson; sister, Lorene Perez of Pueblo, Colorado; many nieces and nephews.

     She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Gene.

SERVICES ARE TODAY FOR MRS CHAS ZISKA, 69

     Funeral services for Mrs Charles Ziska, 69, who died Tuesday at Atkinson after suffering a sudden heart attack, will be held Thursday, May 28 at St Joseph's Catholic Church. burial will be in St Joseph's Cemetery.

     Nephews will act as pallbearers.

     Mrs Elsie Obermire Ziska, daughter of Mr and Mrs Joseph Obermire, was born at Struble, Iowa, Feb 17, 1901 and married Charles Ziska at Butte, Sept 10,1919. To this union two sons and three daughters were born. The family farmed and ranched in the Atkinson community until 1961 when they moved to town in semi retirement. They celebrated their Golden Wedding Aug 17,1969.

     Mrs Ziska was a member of St Joseph Church, a 20 year member of Catholic Daughters, and belonged to the Altar society.

     Survivors include her husband, Charles; daughters, Mrs Walter (Viola) Kaup of Stuart, Mrs Robert (Evelyn) Hazelhurst of Denver, Colorado, Mrs Neal (Sylvia) Harkins of Denver, sons, Kenneth of Atkinson, Marvin of O'Neill, 25 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild.

     Funeral services for Mrs Charles Ziska were held Thursday May 28 at St Joseph Catholic Church. Burial was in St Joseph Cemetery.

     Pallbearers were nephews, Jerry Weber, Dean Obermire, Gene Ziska, Alvin Krysl, Bryon Obermire, Don Wernke of Grand Island.

     Mrs Elsie Obermire Ziska, daughter of Joseph and Amelia Haerling Obermire was born at Struble, Iowa, Feb 17,1901. She was married to Charles Ziska at Butte, Sept 10,1919 and 5 children were born to this union. The family farmed and ranched in the Atkinson area until their partial retirement to Atkinson in 1961. They observed their Golden Wedding Aug 17,1969.

     Survivors include her husband, Charles; daughters, Mrs Walter (Viola) Kaup of Stuart, Mrs Robert (Evelyn) Hazelhurst of Denver, Colorado, Mrs Neal (Sylvia) Harkins of Denver, sons, Kenneth of Atkinson, Marvin of O'Neill,; 7 brothers, Vince, Bill, Gus, Joh, Francis, Nick and Jim Obermire and a sister, Mrs Joe (Pauline) Krobot, 25 grandchildren, and 1 great grandchild.

GEORGE B ZISKA

A mass of Chritian burial was held on Aug 11,2004 at St Vianney Catholic Church in Omaha, Nebr, and a funeral mass will be held Thursday (today) Aug 12, 2004 at St Joseph's Catholic Church in Atkinson, Nebr for George B Ziska, age 92 years 5 months and 16 days.

Burial will be in St Joseph's Catholic Cemetery with military graveside honors conducted by the Atkinson American Legion Post #86 at Atkinson, Nebr.

He was born Feb 22,1912 at Atkinson to Fred E and Agnes M Kramer Ziska. He enlisted in the US Army on Nov 24,1942 and served during World War II. He was honorably discharged on Aug 10,1943 with the rank of PFC.

George was united in marriage to Marie Bayer. He was employed for 33 years at Boys Town in Omaha. He was a 60 year member of the Millard American Legion Post #374. After retiring he helped his son, George build 10 homes for needy families in Kentucky, known as the Appalacian Construction Crew. He was an avid gardener.

He passed away Aug 8,2004 at the Veterans Medical Center in Omaha.

George is survived by one son, George, and wife Lucy of Bellevue; two grandsons, Thomas Ziska of Orlando, Florida, and Randall Ziska of Omaha; three sisters, Clara Hamik, and Gertrude Kaup, both of Stuart; and Leona Mayer of Santa Monica, California; many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Marie; three sisters, Irene, Margaret, and Theresa and two brothers, Lawrence and Joe.
