Cahill, Daisy Gertrude
Sept 17 and 24,1908, Stuart Advocate
Daisy Gertrude, eldest daugther of Professor JL and Anna Cahill, was born at Abingdon, Ill, Sept 9,1892, and died at Tilden, Nebr, Sept 10,1908, aged 16 years, 1 day. In Aug 1899 her parents moved to Stuart, where Mr Cahill had charge of the public school for 8 years, moving to Oakdale, 1 year ago, and for the past 3 months having lived at Tilden.
For 2 and 1/2 years Daisy had been much afflcited and in spite of all that medical skill and good care could do, the disease gained the mastery. Those who knew her will remember her sweet sunny disposition, so talented and full of promise, of a useful career when she was well, and so patient during those long months of sickness. At the age of ten she was converted and united with the Methodist church, which was dear to her the remainder of her young life, but having bid farewell to the church militant, she knew she was going to enter the church triumphant.
The funeral service was held in Methodist Church, Tilden on Saturday afternoon, after which the remains were laid away in the beautiful cemetery at Tilden. Rev R Frank Shucklock of Oakdale, who had been her pastor, preached an impressive sermon from the text "As ye go, Preach", it being Daisy's wish to leave a message to the living.

MRS ANTON CHRISTIANSON MET INSTANT DEATH NEAR GREGORY DEPOT
Gregory Times Advocate Tuesday evening about 8 o'clock Mrs Anton Christianson met instant death as a result of a runaway accident.
Mr and Mrs Christianson and two sons were on their way home in a lumber wagon. They stopped at the depot to get a box of express just after the evening train had pulled out. The team being rather fractious the elder boy remained in the wagon with his mother to watch the team while the father and younger son went into the depot for the box. It seems the box proved too heavy for them, and the help of the older son was needed. Mrs Christianson staid with the team, but got out of the wagon and stood at their heads. Just as the box was being loaded in the wagon the team started, knocking Mrs Christianson down and both team and wagon passed over her body. Medical aid was at once summoned, but life had departed, instant death having been pronounced. The remains were taken to the home of Mrs Henning.
Mrs Christianson was a woman past middle age and moved here with her husband early last spring from Atkinson, Nebr.
Mr and Mrs Christianson were well and favorably known here and the sympathy of the entire community is extended to the family in their affliction.

Coats, Adam
May 21,1908, Stuart Advocate
Adam Coats was born near Rays Hill, Bedford Co, Penn, Sept 5,1826; died May 13,1908, being 81 years 8 months 8 days of age. When about 26 years old he joined the Methodist Episcopal Church, and since that time, a period of over 55 years, he has been an earnest faithful follower of Christ.
When about 40 years of age, he was united in marriage to Miss Susan Pittenger of Mansfield, Ohio., Four children: were born to them, two of whom, both girls, died in infancy. His wife died after about 12 years of married life, leaving him with two children, a girl of ten and a boy of 8 years. The daughter grew to womanhood, was married to Cassius M Lawson of Norwalk, Ohio, and died in 1893, leaving two little boys. The only remaining child is the son, W N Coats, with whom he had made his home almost all the time for the past 20 years. There now remains but one child and 7 grandchildren: to hold him in remembrance.
Father Coats was a kindly, trustful disposition, who always thought more of the life to come than of this earthly career. His intense love for his grandchildren: and his faith in God's promises occupied his time and heart to the exclusion of the practical things of life. He leaves an example of steadfastness and child like faith in the teachings of Christ, worthy of the emulation of us all.

JAMES M CORP MURDERED
M W Miller handed us the following, clipped from a Chehalis, Wash paper, giving an account of the murder of James M Corp, a man, who, for a number of years ago, lived near Carns, Rock Co, and who was well known to a number of Stuart people.
Chehalis, Wash - Wed, May 26 - James M Corp, living 13 miles southeast of Chehalis, on Jackson Prairie, was shot at 8:30 last night by Joseph Ware, a neighbor. The shooting was done with a 32 calibre revolver, and the bullet entered Corp's forehead, killing him instantly. The story told by the Corp family is that Ware rode up to the Corp house and accused one of the Corp boys of stealing a picket rope. The boy denied this theft.
The father, hearing the conversation, came from the house and insisted that the boy had not taken the rope. The lie was passed and Corp climbed over the yard fence and started for Ware. The latter pulled a revolver and fired, the ball stricking Corp in the forehad, killing him instantly. After the shooting, Ware rode rapidly away.
The sheriff's office was notified immediately and Sheriff Urquhart went to the scene of the shooting placed Ware under arrest, and brought him to Chehalis. The officers will allow no communication with him. The coroner will hold an inquest over the body of Corp today.
Corp leaves a large family of children. He is a member of the WOW of this city, carrying an insurance policy in that order for $3000.
Ware was married, but has no children.
