FLEMING posted by Ken Gibbons on Friday, May 1, 1998

Searching for information pertaining to the FLEMING family who moved to Howard County circa 1881. The family consisted of Lawrence FLEMING, his wife Adeline, their son, James C. aka J. C. FLEMING. A cousin, (William) Sherman FLEMING was living with them when he was accidentally killed by J. C. Another of Lawrence's brothers, Barton FLEMING, came into Howard County some time after the shooting, possibly as late as 1884 or 1885.
Many thanks to those who read and act on this query.

KLIPPEL, LEHOWETZ posted by Denzil Klippel on Tuesday, May 5, 1998

Researching descendents, and related family members of William Henry KLIPPEL b. 7 Nov 1855 (NY), d. 27 Jun 1930 (NE), who married Annie LEHOWETZ in St. Paul, Howard County, NE about 1890 (Marriage Record Index, Book 2, Page 281, need exact date). They had 1 child: Henry KLIPPEL who was born about 1890 (need this DOB also, and date of death if known). Would like to correspond with anyone researching the KLIPPEL or LEHOWETZ names. William Henry KLIPPEL was my granduncle and a farmer in St. Paul, Howard County, NE. I am also interested in knowing more about M. H. KLIPPEL who is listed with my granduncle in the 1890-1 Business Directory & Farmer's List of the Nebraska State Gazetteer, Howard County Farmers.

CORNETT posted by Ruth Cornett on Monday, June 15, 1998

I am researching the Nathaniel CORNETT family who lived in Logan, Howard County, NE from about 1884 to at least 1900. He and Orpha had 7 children born in NE listed on the 1900 census. They were Adenston, John, Nathaniel, Hattie, Guy, Mary and Baby (I believe this to be Oscar). There were 3 other children, William, Sam, and one other unknown, all possibly born in Iowa. If anyone can help me with other info, I would greatly appreciate it.

CARTER, MEADER, ROFF posted by Judith Carter Damewood on Wednesday, June 24, 1998

I'm searching for information on two sets of my great grandparents, who came to Howard County around 1884-1885: Francis Marion CARTER and wife Ellen Strong CARTER, and William Israel MEADER and wife Margaret Elizabeth ROFF. Both families were farmers and lived around St. Libory. They are all buried in the Dannebrog cemetery. My grandparents were Miles G. CARTER and Cora Alice MEADER, and my father, Dale D. CARTER, was born in their farmhouse about 4 miles outside St. Paul. I would be happy to share information, and would like very much to hear from descendents of Carters and Meaders. I am particularly interested in finding out about my great aunt, Mary E. MEADER, who was married about 1880 in Missouri to a man named Redding. In 1891, she and Philip Amos Hoover took out a marriage licesne, but there was no return. I would like to know if Mary was divorced or a widow, and also when the marriage to Amos Hoover took place. I am also interested in why Mrs. J. P. S. Schofield "severed all connections with the Carter family" (this was reported in the newspaper!) around 1905. I believe that she was raised by F. M. and Ellen CARTER. The biggest mystery is that there is a story in the family about Carter relatives from North Carolina visiting the Carters in Howard County around the turn of the century. If anyone could help me find out who they were I would be eternally grateful!

LARCHICK, LEWANDOWSKI, LORCZYKOWSKI posted by George Hoyt on Wednesday, July 8, 1998

They came from Poland, had a few children in PA, and then first appeared in NE (Howard County) on the 1880 census. The LORCZYKOWSKI name was later shortened to LARCHICK. Some of their descendents were Fank LARCHICK, Bruno LARCHICK(Later moved to WY), and Ed LARCHICK. Some of these people are later found in the Loup City area of Sherman county. There was some marriage into the LEWANDOWSKI family.
