Gerald W. Awtry McCOOK — Gerald W. Awtry, 74, of McCook died Dec. 6, 1997, at Linden Manor Nursing Home in North Platte. He was born Jan. 15, 1923, to Oliver Edward and Lydia Gifford Awtry at Stockville, where he attended elementary schools in rural Stockville and graduated from high school in 1942. On Sept. 26, 1943, he married Doris B. Nelsen at Fort Wayne, Ind. Mr. Awtry served with the Army 72nd Troop Carrier Squadron during World War II. He worked for McCook Equity for 28 years and DayCo for 11 years before retirement. He was a member of Memorial United Methodist Church and Veterans of Foreign Wars. He enjoyed woodworking, especially making furniture. Survivors include his wife of McCook; a daughter, Sandy (Dick) Foran of North Platte; two sons, Dennis (Donna) of North Platte and Wayne of Omaha; a brother, Dale (Norma) of Ogallala; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Beulah Wind; and a brother, Wayne. A memorial has been established. Memorial services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Carpenter Breland Chapel with Dr. Douglas A. Delp officiating. Inurnment will be at 2 p.m. at Fort McPherson National Cemetery at Maxwell. Carpenter Breland Funeral Home is in charge.
