Myrtie B. Henry COZAD — Myrtie B. Henry, 81, died Oct. 9, 1997, at Hilltop Estates in Gothenburg. She was born March 15, 1916, near Cozad to William and Mae Pearson Scrutchfield. She lived her entire life in the Cozad area. On Jan. 18, 1933, she married Jesse Henry at Lexington. The coupled farmed north of Cozad until 1959, when they moved to Cozad. Mrs. Henry was a dispatcher for more than 22 years for the Lexington Police Department. In her younger years, she enjoyed fishing and camping. She loved gardening, dancing and playing the organ. In 1949, she received the first private pilot's license issued to a woman in Dawson County. She was a member of First United Methodist Church since 1950 and a 50-year member of the Order of Eastern Star and Priscilla Rebekah Lodge. Survivors include her husband; two daughters, Kathryn (Glen) Cherry of Cozad and Marlene Scott of Denver; a son, Harold (Dorthy) of Cozad; 11 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-granddaughter. She was preceded in death by two grandsons, Clifford Lee and Mick Van Cleave; three sisters; and 11 brothers. Memorials are suggested to the donor's choice. Services will be 2 p.m. Monday at First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Bob Neben officiating. Burial will be in Cozad Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1-9 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at Berryman Funeral Home.
